It’s National Friends of Libraries Week! 💛 Across Jacksonville, nine Friends groups contribute their time and support in order to assist our libraries and the communities they serve. This week, we celebrate the people who carry out that work and everything they do for the Jacksonville Public Library.

You can support their mission by becoming a member or by simply shopping at a book sale. Proceeds from these sales and memberships are used to help expand programs, collections, and services at they libraries they champion.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up at the Library. 📚 Whether you’re interested in writing, film, local history or gardening, there’s something on the calendar for you.

Upcoming programs include a Screening Room presentation of Boikzmoind featuring Joey Marchy, a Writers Lab with Michael Regina sponsored by the Friends of the Willowbranch Library, a Writers Lab with Ben Guterson, a History Chat on the Revolutionary War in Florida with Richard Eason, and several Life Lab gardening programs sponsored by UF/IFAS Extension Duval.

City of Artists is now on view at the Main Library Gallery!

The National Arts Program exhibition features 164 works by 91 City of Jacksonville employees and their children, including photography, painting, sculpture, mixed media and more.

Join us for a free Lit Chat Interview with American Book Award-winning author Tananarive Due at the Main Library.

Due is a leading voice in Black speculative fiction who teaches Black Horror and Afrofuturism at UCLA. Her novel, “The Reformatory,” is the winner of the Los Angeles Time Book Prize and a New York Times Notable Book. It delves into haunting historical fiction, shedding light on the tragedies of the infamous Dozier School for Boys. Her latest novel, "Mazywood" is a literary thriller following the grandson of a famous Black actress, with haunting flashbacks to Hollywood's Golden Age.

Celebrating 65 years of Brown Eastside Branch! 🎉 Opened in 1961 at East 4th and Harrison Streets, this library proudly serves the Eastside neighborhood. In 1995, it was renamed in honor of community leader Raiford A. Brown, who campaigned for years to get a neighborhood library built OutEast.

⚠️ EVENT UPDATE: Literacy Walk-a-Thon Postponed

Due to anticipated weather conditions and out of concern for everyone's safety, the inaugural James Weldon Johnson Literacy Walk-a-Thon, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 10, has been postponed.

While we're disappointed to delay this special event, the safety of our participants, volunteers and supporters comes first.

📅 A new date will be announced soon!
