Our officers had a wonderful time visiting Homer Adkins Pre‑K today! Students got an up‑close look at our patrol cruisers, explored the inside, and even had a chance to talk on the radio.

We also had a special guest join us - Officer Bones, if you couldn't tell - to share a little about the police department and his love for children and community.

Thank you to Homer Adkins Pre‑K for the warm welcome and the chance to spend time with such bright and enthusiastic students!

CPA Session 3 was packed with great presentations and lots of information! Chief kicked off the night with an overview of our budget and some more information about the police department. K9 Officer Moody followed with an awesome look into how K9s use their senses, and then brought in K9 Bono for a live demonstration. Of course, Bono received plenty of love afterward!

Lieutenant Kahrig discussed the Patrol Division and the tactics officers use to keep Jacksonville safe. Sergeant Farmer taught us about body‑worn and dash cameras. Captain Wright wrapped up the evening with a presentation on the department’s drone program and even flew one around the city for us to see in action.

A patrol cruiser was also on display so CPA members could explore all the gadgets and tools used in the field.

Another great session in the books!

The Jacksonville Police Department was honored to visit Pathfinder Preschool on Wednesday in celebration of National Coffee with a Cop Day. We enjoyed coffee and donuts with Director Rebecca, who graciously guided us through the classrooms to meet the sweet little ones excited to say hello.

The older children also joined us outside to explore our patrol cruisers, and their smiles were priceless as they tried the sirens and megaphone.

Thank you, Pathfinder Preschool, for welcoming us so warmly and allowing us to spend time with such wonderful children. There was no better way to celebrate National Coffee with a Cop Day.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 8, 2026
Five Charged Following Investigation of Brightspeed Cable Theft

JACKSONVILLE, AR — Five individuals were charged following a Jacksonville Police Department investigation into the theft of Brightspeed telecommunications cable near 3008 South First Street on October 8.

At approximately 6:49 a.m., officers responded to a reported theft and discovered cut cable and a damaged utility pole. Fresh drag marks led officers into a nearby wooded area, where they located a campsite and detained five individuals.

Officers recovered burned wire, exposed wire and discarded cable casing from the campsite and surrounding area. They also located a warm, smoky burn pit, wire cutters and a reciprocating saw. A Brightspeed representative identified the recovered cable and casing as company property and estimated damage to the cable and utility pole at approximately $35,000. The property owner confirmed that the individuals did not have permission to occupy the campsite.

CPA Session 2 was packed with insight and hands-on learning!

Lieutenant Murphy kicked off the night by walking us through the recruitment process, the precautions taken, and what it truly takes to hire the right officers. Melissa Coppotelli, JPD's crime analysis, shared how research and data help the department understand trends and prevent crime in our community.

PIO Sarah Kate gave us a look into the world of public information with building community relationships, representing the department, and juggling media and events. Sergeant Farmer followed with an in-depth look at Flock cameras and how they assist in crashes and suspect tracking.

To wrap up the evening, Chief Hibbs shared real Flock camera footage, showing how the technology plays a crucial role in solving crimes and keeping Jacksonville safe.

It was an evening full of information, interaction, and behind-the-scenes knowledge. We can’t wait for next week’s session on patrol operations and traffic enforcement!
