The Jacksonville-Onslow Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee will present three Candidates Forums on September 26th.

10:30 – NC Senator and NC House of Representatives

3:30 – Onslow County Board of Education

5:30 - Onslow County Commissioner

All Forums will be held in the City Council Chambers, Jacksonville City Hall, 815 New Bridge Street, Jacksonville.

Virtually participate in the Vision 2020 Toast to Tenacity on social media. Join hashtag campaign in the following ways:
a. Between now and August 26, post a picture to Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter of yourself with a tenacious woman in your life, explaining in the caption why you are toasting her. Be sure to use the hashtag hashtag .

The next meeting of the Onslow County Council for Women will be Thursday, June 14, 3:30 p.m. at Biagio’s in downtown Jacksonville. (Please come to the front door. They will be open just for us.)

The next OCCW meeting will be June 14 at 3:30 p.m. at Biagio's, downtown Jacksonville. This will be our meeting for election of the 2018-2019 Board and to hear reports on arrangements for our 40th anniversary celebration. Please use the front door.

Philippians Place

On May 31st, 2018 at 10:00am, Philippians Place will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in recognition of the opening of their new facility at the corner of Henderson Dr. and Doris Ave. Philippians Place is a non-profit organization whose focus is helping Onslow County residents who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. The new facility will work with clients to improve their chances of finding long-term sustainable housing through life skills classes and resources provided by Philippians Place staff and volunteers. Additionally, Philippians place is the physical location for a self-operated thrift store called Furnishing Hope. Furnishing Hope accepts donations of used furniture and works with clients of Philippians Place to restore and then resale this furniture. Clients working at Furnishing Hope will then earn vouchers used to “purchase” furniture or needed household items for personal use. A final component of Philippians Place is the newly installed Community Garden. This garden, designed and installed by the 2017-18 Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class, provides clients an opportunity to learn basic gardening skills that can be incorporated into everyday living. Clients who work in this garden are included in the voucher system, with one of the potential purchases being fresh produce grown within the garden. Philippians Place is hoping to eventually grow enough produce and solicit produce donations in order to host their own produce stand.

April 11th, 5:30 p.m. Onslow County Sheriff

The next meeting of the Onslow County Council for Women will be a joint meeting with the American Association of University Women on March 15 at 3:30 p.m. We will meet at the University of Mt. Olive, 2543 Onslow Drive, Jacksonville (near New River Pottery). Our guest speakers will be Ingrid Farlow and Rachel Jones from the Onslow County Department of Social Services. Their presentation will focus on the services and programs available for women and children. Prospective members welcome.
