Onslow County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating Jarred Louis Mackey who is wanted in connection to several charges to include attempted first-degree murder. If you see someone matching this description, call 911.

MANHUNT CONTINUES FOR RICHLANDS MAN WANTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER OF DEPUTY

ONSLOW COUNTY – The manhunt continues for Jarred Mackey, 43, of Richlands following an incident involving an Onslow County Sheriff's Office deputy on Monday evening.

On June 8, 2026, around 8:15 p.m., a deputy responded to the area of 1945 Pony Farm Road after receiving a call regarding a suspicious person. Upon making contact with the individual, later identified as Jarred Louis Mackey, Mackey provided the deputy with a false name.

As the deputy continued the investigation, Mackey's true identity was discovered. At that time, Mackey fled on foot, leading to a brief foot pursuit.

During the chase, Mackey removed a handgun from his person and fired a shot toward the pursuing deputy. Fortunately, the deputy was not struck by the gunfire and sustained only minor injuries during the incident.

With the assistance of the Jacksonville Police Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, an immediate manhunt for Mackey was initiated in the Southwest Area of Onslow County. Search efforts remain ongoing as law enforcement officers continue to actively pursue leads and work to bring Mackey into custody.

Mackey is a convicted felon and was already wanted on an outstanding warrant for Manufacturing Ma*****na. As a result of this incident, additional warrants have been obtained charging Mackey with:

-Felony Attempted First-Degree Murder
-Felony Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm
-Assault by Pointing a Gun
-Resisting a Public Officer (Two Counts)
-Assault on a Government Official

Mackey is considered armed and dangerous and is believed to still be in possession of a handgun.

Mackey is described as 5’10, around 165 lbs., and was last seen wearing a blue-collared shirt and black shorts.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office urges residents not to approach Mackey if he is seen. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to immediately contact 911. Residents can also provide tips to Onslow County Crimestoppers at 910-938-3273 or text TIP4CSJAX and your tip to 274637.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

UPDATE as of 8:43 PM: First responders are still on scene. Elizabeth Street is closed and portion of Zack Circle. N Marine is now open, but down to one lane southbound.

Officers recommend taking an alternate route if able. This may roll over into morning commute time, so please plan accordingly.

We are currently assisting with a working structure fire near 817 North Marine Blvd. We ask that you please avoid this area if possible so our crews can respond.

Arrest Made

On May 29, 2026, at 8:44 pm, the Jacksonville Police Department began receiving calls about a disturbance in the area of 2025 North Marine Boulevard. According to callers, a subject later identified as 42-year-old Erasto Santana, had repeatedly struck a vehicle while driving a Ford Ranger pick-up-truck. He had also gotten out of his vehicle while screaming and yelling at others and began slapping or hitting cars with his hands. Upon officers’ arrival, officers observed Santana operating the Ford Ranger truck and attempted to stop him. Santana fled the area pursued by officers. Deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and the State Highway Patrol assisted the Jacksonville Police Department and Santana was arrested after his vehicle was disabled.

Santana has been charged with multiple traffic related offenses by the Jacksonville Police Department (see below).

This incident is still under investigation, and additional charges may be brought.

At the time of this release, Erasto Santana is being held in the Onslow County Jail with a $40,000.00 bond.

Assault Investigation

On Saturday, May 30, at approximately 10:42 AM, Jacksonville Police responded to a subject with a weapon at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, located at 1126 Henderson Dr. The initial investigation has determined that an altercation occurred between customers. 54-year-old Stacey Nicole Sanders and 39-year-old Bethany May Cardona were in a physical exchange when Sanders brandished a firearm. 44-year-old David Cardona disarmed Sanders and she left the business briefly. Sanders returned with a knife which was used to stab Cardona in the chest. Charges include Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Carrying a Concealed Handgun.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with any information related to this incident is asked to contact Detective S.
