📚 Some teachers don’t just teach lessons. They become part of a student’s story.

That’s the kind of impact Sandra Fountain brings to her fifth grade ELA classroom at Duval County Public Schools Fishweir Elementary.

With 42 years in education, Fountain still teaches with purpose, patience, and the belief that every child learns differently. Whether she’s working one on one with a student, guiding a classroom discussion, or offering a quiet word of encouragement, her message is clear.

“Once you come into my room, you are mine. You are my child. We are a family.” — Sandra Fountain

Her journey started in the dirt fields of Mississippi, where she learned letters by writing them in the ground. Today, those lessons still live on through the students she helps every day.

That’s the heart of Team Duval County Public Schools. Educators who see potential, build confidence, and shape lives that last far beyond the classroom. 🍎

🏆 DOUBLE THE HONOR, DOUBLE THE IMPACT! 🏆

Congratulations to Team Duval's Director of Athletics, Tammie K. Talley, on being inducted into not one, but TWO prestigious halls of fame!

This year, Talley will be inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA) Hall of Fame and the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Hall of Fame—an extraordinary achievement that reflects decades of dedication to education, athletics, and student success.

Now in her 34th year in public education—all with Team Duval—Talley has devoted her career to creating positive experiences for student-athletes and coaches while championing the power of athletics to inspire, develop, and empower young people. Her leadership and commitment have made a lasting impact across our district and beyond.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and grateful for the passion, excellence, and service she brings to Team Duval every day.

Congratulations, Tammie K. Talley!

🍎 Every day is an adventure inside Jessica Mauch’s second grade classroom at Duval County Public Schools Normandy Village Elementary.

As a proud Duval County Public Schools graduate herself, Jessica says teaching is about more than lessons and test scores. It’s about helping students grow, build confidence, and experience those unforgettable “light bulb” moments when learning finally clicks. 💡

“This year I actually looped up with some of my kids from first grade, so seeing that growth is really great.” — Jessica Mauch

Jessica, who was recently named Teacher of the Year at Normandy Village Elementary, says one of the best parts of teaching is seeing former students continue to come back and say hello years later.

“It warms your heart.” ❤️

And for Jessica, the journey started with one teacher who changed everything for her.

“My third grade math teacher at Crystal Springs Elementary is the reason I wanted to become a teacher.” — Jessica Mauch

That’s the power behind the “Why Duval” story. Teachers inspiring the next generation of teachers right here in Duval County Public Schools.

🍎 What does “Why Duval” really mean?

For Patricia Raymer, a 5th grade teacher at Duval County Public Schools Mamie Agnes Jones Elementary School, it’s the feeling of being supported, connected, and surrounded by people who genuinely care about students and each other.

“We’re a huge district, but I don’t ever feel unsupported.” 💙

That’s what stands out most to Patricia. Even in one of the largest school districts in Florida, she says the relationships and collaboration across Team Duval make all the difference.

“I’ve got teacher friends across Duval County that we connect with each other and build off our ideas.” — Patricia Raymer

Inside her classroom, Patricia is helping students grow with confidence while creating the kind of positive environment that students remember long after elementary school.

And for her, the trust in Duval County Public Schools goes beyond teaching.

“There’s great opportunities for students that leave DCPS. Both of my kids are DCPS kids, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.” — Patricia Raymer

That’s the heart behind “Why Duval.” 🍎

🔬 Imagine walking into a science classroom where students are out of their seats, debating ideas, running labs, laughing, solving problems, and actually excited to learn.

That’s the energy Dr. Scott Sowell brings every day as the AP Environmental Science teacher at Duval County Public Schools Atlantic Coast High School. 🌎🧪

After 30 years in education, he still teaches with the same passion and personality that first brought him into the classroom. And honestly? The students feed off of it.

“If I enjoy this in the moment and I like hanging out with them, the students feel that energy too. That’s what keeps us going.” — Dr. Scott Sowell

What makes his story even cooler is that he grew up right here in Duval County Public Schools before eventually coming back home to teach the next generation. Now, some of his former students are building careers in environmental science, water quality, and medicine.

That’s the kind of full-circle impact happening inside Team Duval classrooms every single day. 👏

And when you hear Dr. Sowell talk about why he loves teaching here, it’s easy to understand why educators stay.

“I feel supported here. I get to collaborate with other teachers, try new ideas, and keep finding ways to make learning meaningful. You’re not on an island by yourself here.” — Dr. Scott Sowell

🍎 If you’re looking for a place where teachers can bring their personality, creativity, and passion into the classroom, Team Duval is ready for you.
