🚔 A Look at JPD’s Newest Vehicles!

You may have noticed a couple of new vehicles around town recently, and we wanted to take a moment to share a little about them with our community…
_________________________________________

Chevrolet Tahoe

The Jacksonville Police Department (JPD) was able to purchase this used Tahoe from the Ashland Police Department at a substantial discount. The vehicle’s purchase and equipment outfitting were made possible through the incredible generosity of the Jacksonville Boosters, which covered 100% of the costs. We are extremely grateful for their continued investment in our community and the safety of our officers.

You may also notice that the Tahoe has a different color scheme than our standard patrol vehicles. This is intentional! The Tahoe serves as our supervisor vehicle, assigned to our Sergeant, and its unique appearance helps distinguish it from our regular patrol fleet.

Ford Explorer

Our newest Explorer is a pre-owned police vehicle that has undergone several months of preparation to make it patrol-ready. It replaces a decade-old Dodge Charger that had reached the point where it was no longer safe for our officers to operate.

Investing in Our Community

One of Chief Hannum’s top priorities is ensuring our officers have the vehicles and equipment necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively while providing the highest level of service possible to our community.

At the same time, we recognize the importance of being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. While purchasing new police vehicles would be ideal, strategically acquiring and outfitting pre-owned vehicles can be a practical and cost-effective alternative when the circumstances make sense.

These upgrades represent our continued commitment to maintaining a safe, effective, and financially responsible police department.

A special thank-you to the Jacksonville Oregon Boosters for their extraordinary generosity and support. Partnerships like these make a meaningful difference in our ability to serve the Jacksonville community. Also a big thank you to Ashland Oregon Police Department and SignApply for their support of JPD!

The Jacksonville Police Department thanks our community for its continued support. It is our honor to serve you.

JACKSONVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT
WEEKLY SERVICE CALL OVERVIEW
October 19, 2026 – October 25, 2026

Each week, the Jacksonville Police Department (JPD) responds to a wide variety of calls for service throughout our community. The following incidents highlight just a few of the many calls our officers handle each week.

• On 10/20/26 at approximately 10:40 p.m., a JPD officer conducted a traffic stop near OR-238 and Mary Ann Drive after observing a traffic violation. During the investigation, the driver was found to have an active warrant out of a neighboring county. Due to jail overcrowding, the driver was cited and released. (First picture)

• On 10/21/26 at approximately 10:32 p.m., a JPD officer observed an older-model gray Honda Civic traveling northbound on Old Stage Road at an extremely high rate of speed. The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, which was estimated to be traveling approximately 100 mph, but lost sight of it near Old Military Road.

Additional units from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and Central Point Police Department (CPPD) were also unable to catch up with the vehicle due to its excessive speed. JPD will continue to monitor the area should the vehicle return to the Jacksonville area.

•On 10/22/26 at approximately 9:37 a.m., a JPD officer conducted a traffic stop on a recreational vehicle (RV) after observing a traffic violation. The driver was found to have active warrants from a neighboring agency, along with a suspended driver’s license.

The driver was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Jackson County Jail on the outstanding warrants. The driver was also cited for driving while suspended. (Second picture)

• On 10/22/26 at approximately 11:39 p.m., JPD officers conducted a traffic stop after observing multiple driving violations. During the investigation, the driver was found to be operating the vehicle without insurance and with a criminally suspended driver’s license at the felony level.

While conducting the investigation, an officer observed a clear plastic box in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard. The box contained approximately 50 grams of field-tested methamphetamine, along with baggies, a scale, and other items commonly associated with the distribution of illegal drugs.

The male driver was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

• Driving While Suspended or Revoked
• Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine
• Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine
• Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine

Oregon law recognizes quantities of 10 grams or more as a “substantial quantity” for certain drug-related sentencing classifications. The approximately 50 grams recovered during this incident significantly exceeded that threshold. (Third and fourth pictures)

The Jacksonville Police Department remains committed to proactive policing, enforcing Oregon law, and reducing the distribution of illegal drugs in our community. Through traffic enforcement and proactive investigations, our officers work to identify criminal activity, hold offenders accountable, and help keep Jacksonville safe.

• On 10/13/26 at approximately 9:29 a.m., JPD officers responded to a report of a serious assault that occurred on the northeast side of Jacksonville over the weekend. Officers interviewed multiple individuals, including the victim, who was hospitalized as a result of the incident. The investigation remains open and active. No additional details are being released at this time.

• On 10/13/26 at approximately 4:21 p.m., JPD officers located and arrested the female believed to be responsible for the theft previously reported at Ace Hardware. Due to jail overcrowding, she was cited to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court and released. (First picture)

• On 10/15/26 at approximately 3:02 p.m., a JPD officer conducting a speed enforcement detail near Graham and Laurel Streets observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer’s in-vehicle radar confirmed the vehicle was traveling at 60 mph in a posted 25 mph zone. The driver was cited for a Class A traffic violation, the most serious classification of traffic violation. If found guilty, the driver faces a $440 fine.

• On 10/17/26, JPD joined multiple law enforcement agencies in Grants Pass to honor the life and service of Grants Pass Police K9 Officer Jeff Craven, who passed away on September 20, 2026. Officer Craven served the Grants Pass Police Department for 12 years and previously served as an Aircrew Rescue Swimmer in the United States Navy. Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and fellow officers as they honor his service and life. (Second and third pictures)

• On 10/17/26 at approximately 11:00 a.m., JPD conducted an enhanced safety patrol near the intersection of Oregon and California Streets during a political protest. The event remained peaceful, with no arrests or other incidents reported. (Fourth picture)

🚦 Traffic Safety Reminder: Please Slow Down

The Jacksonville Police Department takes speeding seriously, particularly in our downtown area, where pedestrian traffic is often heavy. Excessive speed puts drivers, pedestrians, and other road users at unnecessary risk.

Our goal is to encourage voluntary compliance, promote safer driving habits, and prevent avoidable collisions and injuries. However, when speeding continues to be an issue, enforcement will remain a priority.

Please obey posted speed limits, stay alert, and remember that the safety of our community depends on all of us. If slowing down means receiving fewer citations, that is a positive outcome for everyone. When necessary, however, citations will be issued to help hold drivers accountable.

The Jacksonville Police Department appreciates the continued support of our community. It is our honor to serve and protect the citizens and visitors of Jacksonville.

Each week, the Jacksonville Police Department (JPD) responds to a wide variety of calls for service throughout our community. The following is a snapshot of some of the incidents our officers handled during the week of October 5–11, 2026.

• On 10/07/26 at approximately 1:38 p.m., a JPD officer responded to Ace Hardware on N. 5th Street for a reported theft of tools. The female suspect had left the scene before the officer’s arrival. She is described as a white adult female, approximately 5’8” tall and 170 pounds, with blonde hair and a long black tattoo along her jawline. This case remains under active investigation. (First picture) UPDATE: She has been apprehended. More info next week.

• On 10/10/26 at approximately 12:22 p.m., officers responded to a reported collision involving a vehicle and a scooter. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that no injuries had occurred, but the involved vehicle had left. The investigation determined that a child was standing at the corner waiting to cross the street when they accidentally lost control of their scooter and it entered the roadway. 🚨 Seasonal Driving Reminder: Watch for Deer! 🦌

JPD has observed an increase in deer-related vehicle crashes so far this month. Thankfully, no human injuries have been reported in these incidents to date.

As we move further into fall, deer activity can increase around roadways and throughout our community. JPD encourages residents and visitors to remain alert, especially during the early morning and evening hours when deer are more active.

Remember to:

• Slow down when driving through areas where deer are commonly seen.
• Stay alert and scan the roadway and surrounding areas.
• Increase following distance to allow more time to react to unexpected hazards.
• Avoid swerving suddenly if a deer enters the roadway, as this can cause you to lose control or collide with another vehicle.

Unfortunately, our local deer population doesn’t always follow the same traffic rules as human pedestrians… Please use extra caution and help keep our roadways safe for everyone.

Jacksonville Police Department
*Abbreviated* Weekly Service Call Overview
September 28, 2026 – October 2, 2026

The Jacksonville Police Department (JPD) responds to a wide variety of calls for service each week. Below are a few highlights from this week’s activity. This is not a typical full week update, as our PIO left for training prior to the weeks end. We expect to return to our normal weekly update schedule on 10/13/26.

• On 9/30/26 at approximately 2:00p, a JPD officer conducting routine patrol observed a traffic violation while traveling northbound on N. 5th St. and conducted a traffic stop. The male driver was found to have an active warrant from a neighboring agency and was taken into custody without incident. Due to jail overcrowding, the male was cited to appear in Circuit Court and released. (First picture)

• On 9/30/26 at approximately 7:58p, JPD officers responded to E. California St. and N. 3rd St. for a reported multi-vehicle crash. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. The eastbound lane of E. California St. was blocked for approximately one hour while officers investigated the crash. No criminal charges are expected. (Second picture)

• On 9/30/26 at approximately 10:49p, a JPD officer conducted a traffic stop near S. Stage Rd. and Bellinger Ln. after observing a traffic violation. The vehicle initially failed to yield and continued for several minutes before eventually stopping. During the investigation, officers determined that the female passenger had an active no-contact order against the male driver. Under Oregon law, a violation of a qualifying no-contact order requires the offender to be arrested. A Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputy assisted JPD with taking the male into custody. The male was lodged at the Jackson County Jail. The female passenger did not have a valid driver’s license and declined a courtesy ride after the vehicle was towed.

🚸 Heads Up, Jacksonville — New Electronic Crosswalk (Third picture)

A new electronic crosswalk is now in operation at Applegate St. and W. Elm St. Please use extra caution when approaching the crossing and be prepared to stop for pedestrians.

Under ORS 811.025, a driver approaching a pedestrian who is crossing a roadway within a crosswalk must stop and remain stopped to allow the pedestrian to safely cross. Drivers should always watch for pedestrians, slow down when approaching crosswalks, and yield when required.

Please slow down, stay alert, and help keep our pedestrians safe.

Jacksonville Police Department
Weekly Service Call Overview
September 21, 2026 – September 27, 2026

The Jacksonville Police Department responds to a wide variety of calls for service each week. Below is a highlight of several incidents and community contacts handled by JPD officers during the week of September 21–27.

On 9/22/26 at approximately 3:30p, a JPD officer was dispatched to the Rich Gulch/Britt Trails area following multiple reports of two aggressive dogs reportedly menacing hikers. The dogs were described as a large German Shepherd and a large Rottweiler/Pit Bull mix. An officer searched the trail system using a UTV but was unable to locate the dogs. The dogs appeared to be well cared for and are believed to be accessing the trail system from an unknown nearby residence. There have been no reported physical encounters between the dogs and hikers or their pets. Anyone who encounters the dogs and feels threatened is encouraged to call 911. (First picture)

On 9/22/26 at approximately 7:26p, a JPD officer was notified of a reported hit-and-run near Pair-A-Dice Ranch Road and Westmont Drive. Officers located a stop sign that had been sheared off and left on the ground, along with a Westmont Drive street sign that had been taken. A broken-off vehicle part left at the scene contained identifying part numbers associated with a Subaru. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact ECSO non-emergency at 541.776.7206 and reference case JV26-175. (Second picture)

On 9/23/26 at approximately 9:01p, two JPD units responded to the 3400 block of W. Main Street, just east of Jacksonville, for a reported structure fire. JPD officers closed W. Main Street for approximately 40 minutes while Medford Fire Department, Jackson County Fire District 3, and Jacksonville Fire Department personnel worked to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported, and the fire was contained to the garage. (Third picture)

On 9/24/26 at approximately 5:24p, JPD was dispatched to the area of N. 5th Street and E. C Street regarding a suspicious male carrying several bags. An officer conducted a welfare check and contacted the individual, who was initially agitated and declined to speak with the officer. As no crime had occurred, the individual was free to leave.

Later that evening, at approximately 7:45p, officers responded to the Chevron on N. 5th Street after a passerby reported a male yelling nearby. Officers recognized the individual from the earlier contact. This time, he agreed to speak with officers and accepted assistance. Officers helped connect him with a safe and warm place to stay and provided a courtesy transport to a shelter in the Ashland area. (Fourth picture)

Not every call for service results in an arrest or citation. Sometimes, effective law enforcement means recognizing when someone needs assistance and working to find a solution. JPD remains committed to serving our community with professionalism, compassion, and respect.

Once again, our Public Information Officer (PIO) will be in Salem for training, so there will be no full weekly update next week.
