It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of our first ever police K9, Rocko on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026. For 8 years, Rocko served the City of Kaukauna alongside his handler, Officer Meyer. Throughout his career, Rocko helped detect illegal drugs, apprehend dangerous subjects, and assist in searching for missing/fleeing persons. After he retired from his patrol duties, he was an active member throughout the Kaukauna School District as Officer Meyer transitioned to the role of School Resource Officer. As dedicated and hard working as Rocko was, he was also a companion to not only Officer Meyer but all of the officers at the Kaukauna Police Department. Throughout his shifts, he would often wander throughout the halls of our police department looking for extra food scraps from his fellow officers. Rocko and Officer Meyer shared a special bond that was evident in their drive to work hard, do good, and protect the citizens of Kaukauna. Rocko's legacy will live well beyond his years, not only as our first K9, but as one of the best working K9's in the area. Thank you to the community for the support of our department's K9 program throughout the years. A special thank you to the Kaukauna K9 committee, Clever K9s The All American Garage Inc. Kaukauna Veterinary Clinic and BluePearl Pet Hospital for your unwavering support. Rest easy, Rocko, you were a good boy.

Thank you for your service, K9 Boja. Sending our prayers.πŸ–€πŸ’™πŸ–€πŸΎπŸΎπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²πŸ˜ͺ

It is with profound sadness that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Wisconsin State Patrol announce the line-of-duty death of Trooper Bradley Ritger at the age of 29.

On September 21, 2026, Trooper Ritger was responding to a traffic pursuit when he deployed a tire deflation device on a bridge deck west of the Dunn County/Eau Claire County line. As he moved to a position of cover, he fell from the bridge onto the roadway below. Despite lifesaving efforts and critical medical care, Trooper Ritger succumbed to his injuries on October 2, 2026.

Trooper Ritger joined the Wisconsin State Patrol as a member of the 67th Recruit Class. He served in the Northwest Region for nearly five years, primarily in the Dunn County area. During his career, he attained certifications as a general law enforcement instructor, mobile field force team member and squad leader, and salvage vehicle inspector. Prior to his service with the Wisconsin State Patrol, Trooper Ritger served with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for three years.

Trooper Ritger was a dedicated public servant whose strong work ethic and positive presence left a lasting impact on anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He approached every situation with professionalism, integrity and a genuine commitment to serving others. Whether assisting the public, supporting his fellow troopers, or taking on difficult challenges, he consistently demonstrated compassion and willingness to help wherever needed. His dedication to his family and unwavering commitment to his profession will not be forgotten.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Trooper Ritger’s family, friends, loved ones and all who served alongside him. As the community mourns, the Wisconsin State Patrol has placed a law enforcement memorial vehicle at its Northwest Region Post in Eau Claire where the public is welcome to drop off cards, flowers, or other condolences.

Out of respect for the family, no additional information will be shared at this time. Funeral arrangements are being made by the family. We kindly ask media and the public to respect their privacy and space for grieving.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of retired K9 KC, who passed away on 9/16/2026 following medical complications.

KC was far more than a police K9. He was a partner, protector, teammate, and beloved member of the West Allis Police Department family.

From his arrival from Hungary in 2019 through his distinguished career alongside Cpl. Sayeg, KC served our community with incredible courage, loyalty, and dedication. He was deployed 369 times, resulting in 188 arrests, and his work helped keep countless officers and community members safe.

But those who knew KC will remember more than his impressive accomplishments. They’ll remember the gentle giant who loved children, belly rubs, community events, and simply being around people. He had a remarkable ability to go from playful companion to highly focused police K9 in an instant.

KC retired last year on 10/23/2025 after giving everything he had to his partner, his department, and his community. He leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.

Rest easy, KC. Thank you for your service, your courage, your loyalty, and the countless lives you touched along the way. You will always be a part of the West Allis Police Department family.
