πβ¨ WHO WERE YOU? Principal Spotlight: Dr. Leslie Vazquez β¨π
Before she was leading Igo Elementary School, Dr. Leslie Vazquez was a straight-A student, teacherβs pet, athlete and member of the Military Drill Team at American Military Academy in Puerto Rico. π
She competed in track and field, swimming and basketball, and served as a platoon leader β known for sharp moves, strong leadership and keeping everyone in step.
Her nickname? π βThe General.β
Dr. Vazquez was also a distance runner through college, competing in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters.
Her favorite subject was reading. Her least favorite? π
Math.
One teacher who made a lasting impact was her kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Rivera. βShe always saw the best in me and inspired me to shine!β That lesson still shapes the way she leads today.
Her favorite cafeteria meal was white rice, beans, chocolate milk and peanut butter!
Outside the classroom, she and her friends formed a band and played at school events, making them the schoolβs soundtrack. πΆ
At prom? π She was known as the Dancing Queen.
When she wasnβt in uniform, her hair was long β all the way to her waist!
Becoming a teacher or principal was never part of the original plan. Her dream?
βοΈ Fly fighter jets for the Air Force. As she puts it, βLife had a different flight plan!β
If classmates had voted on a superlative, hers would have been: π Most Spirited
And what would her younger self say about where she is today? βYou are exactly where you belong!β
The lesson she carries forward from Mrs. Rivera is simple and powerful: π Believe in people.
Today, Dr. Vazquez leads by looking for the best in every student and staff member β and helping them see it in themselves.
Her advice to students? βStay daring, keep dancing, and trust your journey. Your flight plan may change, but youβll land exactly where you belong!β
Fearless. Spirited. Determined. All great ways to describe Dr. Vazquez, but βStrength with Grace,β she says, truly reflects who she is. ππΎ
