We would like to take the time to say thank you to everyone who came out today in support of our department. It has been an amazing 40 years building friendships and providing emergency services to the communities of Hinton, Jerusalem, Ludville, Hill City, and Blaine. Today was a little bitter sweet as we all reflected on the past 40 years with current and former volunteers, their families, and citizens within the community through stories and photos. Georgia Representative Rick Jasperse and West Pickens Commissioner Josh Tippins was in attendance. Through Rick Jasperse’s leadership and assistance from Mr. Tippins, and Tucker Green, a section of Highway 53 W in the area of the Fire Station has been renamed in honor of Jerry Barnes who served as a former Fire Chief and a Founding Member of the Hinton VFD and to later go on to serve as a west district Commissioner for Pickens County up until his passing. Through Jerry’s leadership, we can recognize that the Hinton VFD is more effective, efficient, and equipped today in 2026. It has been an honor to serve the citizens and visitors of the west end of Pickens County for the last 40 years. We thank each of you whom have supported us through that journey.

As we near our 40th year serving the citizens and visitors of the Hinton, Blaine, Ludville, and portions of the Jerusalem communities, we ask that if you were a previous member of our organization, and if you’re able to, to please show up Saturday Sept. 12th 2026 from 10:00 until 2:00. We would like to thank the men and women who have served our agency and our communities and the citizens who have continually supported us over the last 40 years. As communities throughout the United States grow, the cost of living becomes more expensive, and life for people continues to get busier, the amount of volunteers decreases each and every year. Having a volunteer department that is 40 years old and is currently flourishing with volunteers is something to be proud of. Thank you to our community for the support over the last 40 years. Today, we wouldn’t be what we are without the support and friendship from each one of you.

The Hinton VFD is conducting training in conjunction with Life Force Air Medical in the 9000 block of Highway 53 West. This is a routine training exercise and there is no need for concern.
