Today, the Hamilton County Property Appraiser’s Office pauses to honor and remember all the men and women who lost their lives on this tragic day 25 years ago. We hold close in our hearts the innocent lives taken, the families forever changed, and the countless communities that still carry the weight of September 11, 2001. On that day, our nation witnessed unimaginable terror, heartbreak and hatred from those who intended to harm us, BUT because of the resiliency of the American spirit, we also witnessed extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and love for one another.
We salute and pay homage to the police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, first responders, service members, and plain ordinary citizens who ran toward danger when others were trying to escape it. Many gave their lives while trying to save the lives of strangers. Others survived that terrible day but continued to pay a painful price in the years that followed, suffering from illness and hardship caused by the dangerous hazards and toxic exposure from the collapse of the towers. Their bravery did not end when the dust settled; their sacrifice continued long after the world moved forward.
May today serve as a solemn reminder that, AS AMERICANS, WE ARE BLESSED TO LIVE IN THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. But that blessing comes with a responsibility: to REMEMBER, to HONOR, and to STAND UNITED in the face of hardship. September 11 showed us the worst of hatred, but it also revealed the best of the American spirit, neighbors helping neighbors, strangers becoming heroes, and a nation coming together as one family.
Let us never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy, the heroes who protect them, or the sacrifices made to preserve them. United, we will continue to stand; divided, we will fall. Today and always, we remember. We honor. We pray for the families who still grieve, for the heroes who still suffer, and for the nation we love. We will never forget September 11, 2001.
