After 10 long training days, even longer nights, tons of work, and lots of laughs, the Missouri Police Chiefs Association was proud to graduate another D.A.R.E. Officer Training Session of 31 officers from all across Missouri, as well as officers from Kansas, Illinois, Wyoming, Michigan, and Nebraska!

Again this year, 4 more D.A.R.E. Mentor Trainees from Missouri completed the second phase of their Mentor Officer Training, allowing them to train new D.A.R.E. Officers as well. Congratulations to veteran D.A.R.E. Officers Zach Hudson from Washington Police Department, Stacy Drake from Cass County Sheriffs Office, Tony Karr from Sedalia Police Department, and James Cihy from Hickory County R-1 School District Skyline.

It is our honor and privilege to be the designated D.A.R.E. Training facility in the state for this once-a-year training opportunity, and we are happy to have been able to host those from other states.

These officers return to their communities and schools ready to positively impact the lives of countless children in the years to come. We respect the mission of these D.A.R.E. officers and wish them the very best.

We'd like to wish an extra special thank you to our dedicated D.A.R.E. Officer Training Team: State D.A.R.E. Coordinator - Kevin Woodson, Mentors Tim Swadley - Aurora Missouri Police Department, Brent Forgey - Nixa Police Department, Jacob Wise - Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office, Kandi Greer - Camden County MO Sheriff's Office, and D.A.R.E. The Missouri Police Chiefs Association and Missouri Police Chiefs Charitable Foundation were awarded grant funding for a second consecutive year to support law enforcement training and youth drug prevention initiatives.

As part of this continued investment, a portion of the funding was designated to sponsor a D.A.R.E. America Mentor Officer Training (M.O.T.), which was conducted June 1–5, 2026, in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Twenty-four (24) law enforcement officers representing agencies from eleven (11) states successfully completed Phase I of the D.A.R.E. Mentor Officer Certification process.

Participating states included Missouri, Arkansas, California (National Guard Counterdrug Task Force), Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Utah. These newly-designated Mentors-in-Training will play an important role in strengthening D.A.R.E. programs and training teams within their respective states.

Participants will complete the final phase of certification during upcoming D.A.R.E. Officer Trainings (D.O.T.s) conducted throughout their home states. Missouri's Phase I Mentor Officers are scheduled to complete Phase II of the certification process in September 2026, which will also be supported through grant funding.

The training was delivered by members of the Missouri D.A.R.E. Training Team under the leadership of State Training Coordinator (S.T.C.) Captain Kevin Woodson (Ret.). Training staff included Captain Kevin Woodson (Ret.), Captain Amanda Blank of the Cooper County Sheriff's Office, Lieutenant Christine Eddleman of the Cass County Sheriff's Office, and Officer Brent Forgey of the Nixa Police Department. The class educator was Mr. Chad Hawkes of the Utah D.A.R.E. Training Center.

Administrative support was provided by the Missouri Police Chiefs Association. Rafael Morales represented D.A.R.E. America and served as the class facilitator.

Law enforcement is more than a job - it is a daily commitment to face the unknown. Every time an officer puts on the badge, they accept a profound responsibility to protect and serve, knowing the risks involved.

On Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to remember the heroes who answered that call and never made it home. We honor their dedication, their professionalism, and their ultimate sacrifice. May we always remember their names and live lives worthy of their protection.

⚖️ On Tuesday, April 23, 2026, Governor Kehoe signed Missouri House Bill 2641 (HB2641), also known as the Intoxicating Cannabinoid Control Act, into law.

This legislation establishes strict regulations on h**p-derived products, effectively banning the sale of intoxicating h**p products outside of state-licensed ma*****na dispensaries.

House Bill 2641, also called the Intoxicating Cannabinoid Control Act, will prevent intoxicating THC infused products from being marketed and sold to children.

Intoxicating THC products, packaged like candy, cookies, cereal and other treats have been sold in our gas stations and convenience stores. Some of our members have reported overdoses among juveniles due to the availability of these products.

The Missouri Police Chiefs Association has been working to help remedy this situation for the last three years, and wants to thank our State Government: Governor Mike Kehoe, Senator David Gregory, Representative Dave Hinman, Attorney General Catherine Hanaway and the many others who supported this endeavor to help us better protect our young people, and keep our communities safe.

Your Association in Action:

⚖️ On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Governor Kehoe signed Missouri Senate Bill 888 (SB888) into law.

Many of our members worked through The Police Chiefs Legislative Coalition in a collaborative effort with the Sheriff’s Association and the Fraternal Order of Police to educate our law makers and move this forward.

These changes will help victims of juvenile crime and protect our communities.

Great work to everyone involved including Senator Nick Schroer, Representative Brad Christ and Governor Mike Kehoe, along with all our other legislators who supported this public safety endeavor.

⚖️ Child Protection: Enhances penalties for s*xual offenses against minors and updates regulations concerning child s*x trafficking.

⚖️Law Enforcement Coordination: Enhances data sharing between law enforcement and prosecutors to create a more robust juvenile criminal history database.

Today, we proudly celebrate the completion of the 16th Missouri Police Chiefs Charitable Foundation / Lincoln University Command College Session by watching 41 amazing law enforcement command staff - from all across the state - graduate from our program, several of whom will move on to complete a Master's Degree from Lincoln University.

Inside the classroom - these law enforcement professionals have received months of specialized training on a wide variety of leadership skills and strategies that leave each individual better prepared to grow, lead, and positively shape the field of law enforcement in the communities they serve, and beyond.

Outside the classroom - a peer support network has been developed, and friendships have been made - some that will last a lifetime.

We are honored to have spent the past six months watching this class learn and grow, and we wish them each the very best in the future. We congratulate these fine law enforcement leaders, and the agencies that invested in them.
