Jefferson Parish has secured a grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful which will provide free signs with messages combatting illegal littering and illegal dumping. The signs will also include the Litter Hotline number — 1-855-LA-LITTER — for those who observe illegal littering or dumping to report the violation.
Jefferson Parish will place the signs in nearly 80 locations, including major roadways, recreational facilities, boat launches, and other places historically prone to litter or dumping problems. Those who observe illegal littering or dumping can call the hotline and report the violation along with a description of the violator. As a reminder, to report those who litter while driving, the license plate information, make and model of the vehicle, and the location of the suspected violation must be provided.
There are two ways to report littering or illegal dumping:
📞 Call the Litter Hotline at 1-855-LA-LITTER
✔️ Fill out the online form available from www.keeplouisianabeautiful.org. All reports will be investigated and warning letters or citations will be issued.
Fines for littering can range from $150 for a first offense of Simple Littering to $2,500, a one-year driver’s license suspension, and 80 hours of community service for a third offense of Intentional Littering.
