🚑 MEET THE CREW: Part-Time Edition!

They may not have a permanent truck assignment, but they’re always ready to jump in wherever needed! Our part-time crew members are an important part of keeping Jackson County EMS running smoothly. Let’s meet two of them!

👋 Meet Megan Norris!

Megan (left) has been with JCEMS for nearly a year, but her service doesn’t stop there! She works full-time with the Commerce Police Department, serves as a Senior Chief in the U.S. Navy, and occasionally responds with Commerce Rescue and Commerce Fire.
She loves the family atmosphere at JCEMS, where everyone looks out for each other and the teamwork is unmatched. Outside of work, she’s a wife, with three children, and has plenty of four-legged family members keeping her busy!

👋 Meet Malachi Walker!

Malachi (right) began serving Jackson County as a volunteer first responder 6 years ago and has been with JCEMS for nearly 3 years! Malachi also is a firefighter for West Jackson Fire Department.
Currently attending paramedic school, he spends his free time with his wife and dog. What he loves most about JCEMS is the opportunity to care for his friends, family, and neighbors right here in his home

We’re grateful for our part-time crew members and the commitment they bring to Jackson County EMS!

🚑 A Second Chance at Life: John’s Survivor Story

What started as a hunting trip turned into a fight for survival.

After suffering a devastating fall from a hunting stand, John was critically injured. When Jackson County EMS arrived (Bradley Love, James Chevalier, and William Wooden who is not pictured below), our crews quickly recognized the severity of his condition.

Our crews immediately began trauma care and recognized that he met the criteria for prehospital blood administration.
And that’s when one of our providers recalled thinking, “All right, it’s go time.”

Thanks to Jackson County EMS’s ability to administer blood products in the field, John received critical treatment before ever reaching the hospital.

The response was remarkable. His color began to return, his blood pressure improved significantly, and he arrived at the hospital with relatively stable vital signs.

But his fight wasn’t over.

John would go on to undergo multiple surgeries and ultimately lose his leg. At one point, his family received a phone call telling them to come to the hospital because he might not survive.

But John did survive. ❤️

Today, despite everything he endured, John has recovered and continues doing something far more important than anything else: being a husband, father, and grandfather.

This story is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

We’re incredibly proud of the Jackson County EMS personnel who recognized a life-threatening emergency, acted decisively, and provided advanced lifesaving care when every minute mattered.

We’re equally grateful for our fire department partners and the incredible team at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, who worked together to give John the best possible chance.
John’s story is a testament to resilience, teamwork, and the impact of bringing lifesaving care to patients before they reach the hospital.
We’re honored to have played a part in his story. ❤️

🚑 Meet The Crew 🚑

Willie Stephens serves as the B-shift Supervisor. He brings over 27 years of experience and dedication to the profession! He has served Jackson County for 12 of those years.
Outside of work, he enjoys running and hiking, especially exploring the beautiful landscapes out west.
What keeps him passionate about EMS? The fact that no two days are ever the same and the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life.
But what truly makes him an asset to Jackson County is his ability to teach and mentor. Not only does his knowledge benefit our community, but also the many providers who have had the opportunity to learn from him.
We're grateful for his leadership!
If you see Willie out and about, give him a 👋!

🚨Safety Friday: Rear-facing for the win! 🚗

Just because your child can face forward doesn't mean they should!
We know those little legs are getting longer, and your toddler might be ready to see the world from a different angle. But when it comes to car seat safety, rear-facing is the safest way to ride for young children.

*Why does it matter?
During a crash, a rear-facing car seat helps support your child's head, neck, and spine while distributing crash forces across their body.
When a young child is forward-facing, their head can be thrown forward with tremendous force, putting additional stress on their developing neck and spine.

📽 Watch the crash test video below!
Seeing the difference between rear-facing and forward-facing can be a real eye opener!

🏁Remember: Keep your child rear-facing for as long as possible, until the maximum height OR weight limit allowed by their car seat's manufacturer. Many convertible car seats allow children to remain rear-facing well into their toddler years and beyond!

The child's age isn't the deciding factor in turning around!

At Jackson County EMS, we care about your children and their car seat safety!

Keep them safe. Keep them rear-facing!

🚒🚑 Neighbors in Service: Plainview Fire Department!

This week, we’re highlighting another great group of neighbors who help us serve Jackson County, Plainview Fire Department!

Plainview is a volunteer fire department whose members dedicate their time to answering the call when their community needs them most.

They primarily respond alongside our Med 5 crew, but you’ll also find them lending a hand to Med 2 and Med 7 when needed.

Whether it’s assisting on a medical emergency, providing extra hands on scene, or simply being there when seconds count, these volunteers play an important role in helping us care for our community.

👏 Thank you, Plainview Fire Department, for your dedication, teamwork, and willingness to serve your neighbors. We’re grateful to have you by our side!

September 2026 | By the Numbers
September was another busy month for Jackson County EMS.
Our team responded to 1,007 incidents, completed 1,081 patient care reports, and transported 641 patients to local facilities.
We also answered 759 ALS responses, provided 7 blood administrations, and assisted with 109 public assist calls across our community.
Every number represents a patient, a family, and a moment when help was needed.
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve Jackson County each day and thankful for the dedication of our crews, support staff, and community partners.
Thank you to our team and to our community for your continued support.

🚑 MEET THE CREW! 🚑
Anthony Troino and Deidre Collins are two of our newest additions to our full time line up!

Anthony has been in EMS for 12 years and serving Jackson County for 5 months. He is assigned to Med 1 on B-Shift.
When he’s off duty, he enjoys spending time at home with his wife, Leighann, and their daughter, Elliana.
One of his favorite things about JCEMS is the laid-back, family-style atmosphere combined with progressive protocols and modern equipment that help us provide the best possible patient care.
He’s always making people laugh, but according to his wife, he’s also an old man at heart! 😂 He takes his lawn care seriously and is determined to have the best-looking yard on the block!

Deidre has 10 years of EMS experience and has been serving Jackson County for 4 months. She is currently assigned as “flex”, so you may find her at any of our stations!
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her son, cheering him on at travel baseball games, traveling with him and their dog, hiking, swimming, and spending time at the beach! She’s a 3rd-degree black belt in Taekwondo with 20 years of training and has also practiced Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu! Watch out!
She loves JCEMS for its supportive, family-like environment and progressive protocols that encourage growth as a paramedic.
Her reason for becoming a paramedic is especially meaningful. After a paramedic and crew saved her dad’s life during a heart attack, she was inspired to pursue the same career. Her dad is still going strong today! ❤️
Now, she hopes to provide that same care and hope to patients and families during some of their most difficult moments.

They are both great new additions to the team! If you see them out and about, give them a 👋!
