National Immigrants Day is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many contributions immigrant neighbors make to our community.

Across West Norriton and beyond, immigrant families bring knowledge, culture, resilience, and lived experiences that strengthen neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and community life. A welcoming community values every person and makes room for everyone to belong.

On October 28, we celebrate the stories, contributions, and strength of immigrant communities and reaffirm our commitment to dignity, respect, inclusion, and belonging for all.

Respect can begin with something as simple as using the name and pronouns a person asks us to use.

International Pronouns Day is an opportunity to recognize how respectful language can help people feel seen, valued, and included. We do not need to make assumptions about someone’s identity based on appearance, and we can help create a more welcoming community by listening, learning, and treating each person with dignity.

Small acts of respect can have a meaningful impact—and belonging grows when everyone is given the space to be themselves.

Every background strengthens our community.

A welcoming community is built when people of all backgrounds are treated with respect, fairness, and dignity. We can help strengthen belonging by applying standards consistently, avoiding assumptions about citizenship or immigration status, welcoming different languages, cultures, and traditions, and speaking up when stereotypes cause harm.

We can also support one another by helping residents find trustworthy information and resources.

🏳️‍🌈 NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY 🏳️‍🌈

Today, we recognize National Coming Out Day and celebrate the courage, authenticity, and strength of LGBTQ+ people who choose to live openly as themselves.

Coming out is a deeply personal journey, and everyone deserves the freedom to decide if, when, and how to share their story. There is no single right way or right time.

At the West Norriton Human Relations Commission, we believe our community is stronger when every person is treated with dignity, respect, and acceptance — and when everyone knows they belong.

Whether you are out, still discovering who you are, supporting someone you love, or simply working to make our community more welcoming:

❤️ Be You. Be Proud. Be Our Community.

You belong here.

Assumptions can cause discrimination.

Discrimination may occur because someone is—or is believed to be—from a particular country, culture, ethnicity, or immigration background, even when that assumption is wrong.

Examples may include:
• Judging someone by a surname
• Assuming citizenship because of an accent
• Mistaking someone’s ethnicity
• Treating someone differently because of a spouse or family member
• Associating clothing or religious practices with a nationality

Fair treatment applies whether the background is actual or only perceived.
