🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: SAFE CHARGING IS A SUPERPOWER! 🔋

Our everyday devices make life easier, but did you know that improper charging can create a fire hazard? This Fire Prevention Week, Spruce River Volunteer Fire Department encourages everyone to take a few simple steps to help prevent lithium-ion battery fires.

⚡ Put these safe charging habits into action:
🔌 Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
🏠 Charge devices on a hard, flat surface—not on beds, couches, or pillows.
🔋 Unplug devices when they are fully charged.
🚲 When possible, charge e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outdoors, away from exits.
⚠️ Stop using any device or battery that becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, smells strange, or makes popping or hissing sounds.

🛑 A few simple habits can make a big difference! Never ignore warning signs from a battery, and always make sure your home has working smoke alarms and a practiced fire escape plan.

Today, members of our department teamed up with the Danville Fire Department to spend the afternoon with the students at Ramage Grade School for Fire Prevention!

The students got to learn about fire safety, what to do if they encounter a fire, the importance of having working smoke alarms, and what firefighters do when they respond to an emergency. 👩‍🚒🧯🚨

We always enjoy getting the opportunity to visit our local schools and teach the next generation about fire safety!

A big THANK YOU to Ramage Grade School for having us and to the Danville Fire Department for joining us! We appreciate everyone who helped make today a success.

đźš’ TRAINING TODAY. PREPARED FOR TOMORROW.

This past weekend, two members of the Spruce River Volunteer Fire Department spent three days at Logan County Fire School, continuing their training through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on, scenario-based training.

Our members completed Heavy Rescue Awareness training Friday evening, followed by School Bus Rescue training on Saturday and Sunday.

The School Bus Rescue training included hands-on scenarios where our members practiced stabilization and extrication techniques using an actual school bus. Training with these types of vehicles presents unique challenges, and having the opportunity to work through those challenges in a controlled training environment is invaluable.

🚨 We hope we never have to use these skills.

But that’s exactly why we train.

As firefighters, we don’t get to choose the calls we receive. We may be called to a vehicle crash, a school bus incident, or another situation where someone’s life depends on us knowing what to do. The time to learn those skills isn’t when the call comes in — it’s beforehand.

Being a volunteer firefighter means more than responding when the tones drop. It means giving up evenings, weekends, and personal time to continually learn, practice, and prepare to serve our community.

We are proud of our members for making the commitment to continue their training and improve their ability to respond when our community needs them most.

A special thank-you to the instructors and everyone involved with Logan County Fire School for providing these valuable training opportunities.

We train for the calls we hope never come. But if that day comes, we want to be ready. đźš’

🔥 WEST VIRGINIA FALL BURNING LAW BEGINS TOMORROW! 🔥

The Fire Marshals Association of West Virginia reminds everyone that October 1 through December 31, outdoor burning is prohibited between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

If you plan to burn, know the law, keep the fire attended at all times, maintain the required cleared area, and never leave a fire until it is completely extinguished.

🍂🔥 A small outdoor fire can quickly become a major emergency. Burn responsibly and help protect your neighbors, firefighters, property, and West Virginia’s forests.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this reminder!

đźš’ Training Together, Growing Stronger! đźš’

Two of our members spent the weekend at Harts VFD alongside firefighters from several other departments, completing Common Passenger Vehicle Extrication (Auto Ex) Awareness & Operations training.

This hands-on training helps our members build the knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively respond when vehicle extrication is required. We’re proud of our members for giving up their weekend to continue learning and improving their skills—and grateful to the hosting department and instructors for the training opportunity!

🔥 Train hard. Stay ready. Serve our communities.

Thank you to all the departments and firefighters who came together to make this training a success!

🔥 Proud of Our Future Firefighters! 🚒

For the past two weekends, members from multiple departments have come together to begin an important journey — completing their Firefighter 1 training and taking the first steps toward becoming certified firefighters.

These members have already put in long hours, sacrificed their weekends, and dedicated countless hours to classroom instruction and hands-on drills. They’ve been challenged, pushed outside their comfort zones, and have continued to show up ready to learn and improve.

And they’re just getting started.

Over the next couple of months, they will continue putting in the time, effort, and hard work required to reach their goal. Becoming a firefighter takes commitment, discipline, teamwork, and a willingness to learn — and these men and women are already demonstrating all of those qualities.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and grateful for their commitment to serving their communities. We look forward to watching them grow throughout this training and, ultimately, earn their certification.

Keep pushing, keep learning, and keep putting in the work. Your communities are proud of you, and we’re proud to have you represent our departments. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Stay safe and keep up the great work! 🔥🚒
