🔋🚒 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK IS IN FULL SWING, JEROME! 🚒🔋
What a week it's been! Your Jerome City Fire crews have had an absolute blast out in schools and at the station talking fire safety with our future firefighters. The high-fives, the questions, the smiles - this is why we love this community.
This year's Fire Prevention Week theme (Oct 4-10) from the NFPA is:
2026 THEME: "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower."
It's focused on lithium-ion batteries - the ones in your phones, laptops, tablets, power tools, and e-bikes. They make life easier, but if they're damaged or charged wrong, they can overheat and start a fire.
Your Safe Charging Superpowers:
⚡️ Use the right charger - always use the one that came with the device or a manufacturer-approved replacement
⚡️ Don't charge on the couch, bed, or under a pillow - use a hard, flat surface
⚡️ Unplug when fully charged - don't charge overnight
⚡️ Watch for trouble - if a battery is swollen, super hot, smells weird, or changes color, stop using it right away
⚡️ Keep exits clear - never charge e-bikes, scooters or tools near a door
And don't forget the basics that still save lives:
✅ Test smoke alarms monthly
✅ Alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level
✅ Have 2 ways out of every room and practice your escape plan
✅ Close Before You Doze!
