The Jan 6th committee is doing their final report right now. Remember that it was so close that we had no Republic that fateful day and it is our citizen responsibility to care about what happened and to prosecute any and all people who harmed and killed officers and created a gallows to lynch the then, VP on the lawn of our Capital. That is horrifying whether you like his politics or not. We cannot just escape into fantasy and hope somebody else does our little role of being informed and engaged. Citizens we need to care and at least be informed. There are Civic educators like me out here to protect and inform. There are elected and appointed officials who have gotten death threats on both sides of the parties for just doing the job they are supposed to do to protect your rights. There are Activists who are putting their ass on the line for us all. Please understand that we are not ok as a Republic and that your freedoms you have, YOU must protect or they will die. This world is at the Apex of change and ALL of us need to care and do our citizen duty or we will not enjoy the liberties so diligently fought for by those who are our ancestors.

There will be about 10 minutes of remarks on the walkway under the golf course club house and then a peaceful walk to the priceless Migratory Bird Habitat and Nesting Area and education resource. Please pre-register for the children/youth beach art

Mary Fields was born enslaved around 1832 and freed following the American Civil War. In 1895, Fields was hired as a mail carrier because she was the fastest applicant to hitch a team of six horses. Fields was the first African American woman, and only the second woman, to work in the United States Postal Service. She got her nickname stagecoach because she never missed a day of work, even showing up during heavy snow by wearing snowshoes and carrying the mail packs on her back.

Fields stood six feet tall, and was a woman who commanded attention. Legend has it she wore a 38 Smith & Weston strapped under her apron and could hit anything within 50 paces.

After quitting the mail route in 1901, Fields opened her own laundry and restaurant with the help of Mother Amadeus, the mother superior of an Ursuline convent in Toledo, Ohio.
