📢 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION UPDATE📢
October 2026 Fire Service Status Report

🚒 Today, the CSC released the latest Fire Service Status Report with the following updates:

🟡🟡🟡🟡🟡 Fire Chief - The current cycle announcement was released on August 1, 2026. Oral Assessments are tentatively scheduled for November 23, 2026.

🟡🟡🟡🟡 Deputy Fire Chief - The current cycle announcement was released on December 1, 2025. Oral Assessments are being scored.

🟡🟡🟡 Battalion Fire Chief - The previous cycle announcement was released on March 1, 2025. All lists were issued with Oral Assessment reviews ongoing.

The current cycle announcement was released on September 1, 2026. Written Exams are tentatively scheduled for January 2027 with Oral Assessments tentatively scheduled for April 2027.

⚪⚪ 2nd Level Fire Supervisor - The previous cycle announcement was released on February 1, 2025. Scoring is complete and all lists were issued.

The current cycle announcement was released on August 1, 2026. Written Exams are tentatively scheduled for November 19, 2026 with Oral Assessments tentatively scheduled for April 2027.

⚪ 1st Level Fire Supervisor - The previous cycle announcement was released on February 1, 2025. Oral Assessments are currently being scored.

The current cycle announcement was released on August 1, 2026. Written Exams are tentatively scheduled for November 19, 2026. Oral Assessment Exercises are tentatively scheduled for April 2027.

🔴 Entry Level Firefighter - The 2026 Firefighter announcement closed on August 31st, 2026.

🔥 Twenty-five years after 9/11, are still living with the health consequences of dangerous exposures on the job.

The continues to fight for fire fighters who become sick to ensure they aren’t forced into lengthy battles to prove their illness was caused by their work.

“If I get killed, if I get sick, you got to take care of me and my family. That’s the deal,” IAFF General President Edward A. Kelly told NBC News’ Alice Barr (The NWT Group) speaking about the workers’ compensation battles fire fighters face across the country.

The promise to take care of those who put their lives and health on the line must extend long after the call ends.

🪙 INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF LABOR LEADERSHIP 💼

👏 The PFANJ applauds our IAFF Convention delegates for funding the Ricky Walsh - IAFF 7th District International Association of Fire Fighters Executive Leadership Program through the passage of Resolution 22.
​
🌊 Andrew Hagenberg, President of Monmouth & Ocean Career Firefighters Association IAFF L3874, represented the 1st District in the inaugural Executive Leadership Program class at Babson College.

👨‍🎓 Brother Hagenberg stood with Nick Kasper of United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg, IAFF L867, and his fellow alumni, in support of the resolution.

📚 Compared to the short format IAFF Partnership Education Program (PEP) Workshops, the Executive Leadership Program is long format and focuses on: executive leadership, strategic thinking, organizational development, effective communication, decision-making, and building stronger labor organizations. It provides union leaders skills they can apply within their IAFF, state associations, local affiliates, departments, and communities.

💲This funding creates more opportunities for future labor leaders across the IAFF’s 16 districts to hone their executive leadership skills.

📣 IAFF ADVOCATES FOR OUR PFANJ BROTHER 📣
We don't back down when one of our own is targeted.

⬇️ Recently, Newark Fire Officer's Union IAFF Local 1860 President Thomas Shea was demoted from Battalion Chief to Captain in retaliation for simply doing his job and fighting fiercely for his members as union president.

💪 ​This morning, at the 58th International Association of Fire Fighters Convention, PFANJ President Matthew Caliente took a point of personal privilege to address this injustice on the convention floor. In a powerful display of union strength, New Jersey delegates rose in solidarity with Brother Shea. This action received unwavering support of the entire IAFF delegation with the strength of over 365,000 members across the United States and Canada.

🫵 ​When you attack our union leaders for defending their members, you attack us all. An injury to one is an injury to all that will be met with the power of the entire IAFF and its Guardian Policy.
