🚨 2026 Food Safety Update: Top 5 Most Common Violations So Far 🚨
Here is a quick breakdown of the 5 most common food safety violations seen this year and how to avoid them:
🔥 1. Improper Hot Holding Temperatures
Hot foods must be kept at 135°F or higher to prevent bacteria from growing in the "temperature danger zone."
❄️ 2. Improper Cooling Temperatures
Hot food needs to be cooled down quickly—from 135°F to 70°F within 2 hours and down to 41°F or below within an additional 4 hours. Leaving hot food out to cool slowly allows harmful pathogens to multiply.
👔 3. Certified Food Protection Manager Not Present
A certified food protection manager must be on-site during active food prep and service hours to supervise safe operations.
🧽 4. Food Contact Surfaces Not Clean
All food-contact equipment, utensils, and surfaces (including microwaves, prep tables, and cutting boards) must be cleaned, rinsed, and sanitized regularly to prevent cross-contamination.
🥄 5. Improper Utensil Storage
In-use utensils should be stored with handles pointing up to prevent accidental contamination.

Think tick season ends when the leaves fall? Think again! 🍂 October and November are actually PEAK SEASON for adult black-legged ticks (also known as deer ticks). While you're out trick-or-treating or picking pumpkins, these tiny bloodsuckers are lurking in leaf piles waiting for their next victim!

🩸 The Real Horror Story: Black-legged ticks are the primary transmitters of Lyme disease. They don't jump or fly—they just sit patiently on tall grass and fallen leaves, ready to latch on!

🛡️ Don't Let Ticks Ghost Your Fun—Protect Yourself:
🌾 Tuck those pants into your socks (It might look silly, but it works like magic!).
🧴 Apply EPA-registered insect repellent containing DEET or Picaridin.
🔍 Do a Full-Body Tick Check as soon as you get inside (check hidden spots like behind ears and under arms!).
🧺 Tumble dry outdoor clothes on HIGH heat for 10 minutes to zap any hitchhikers.

Have a fang-tastic and safe Halloween season! Share this with friends and family to keep everyone tick-free this fall! 🎃👻

Early detection can make a difference. Talk with your healthcare provider about your risk and when you should begin or continue mammogram screening.
Take the time. Make the appointment. Encourage someone you care about to do the same.

Ground cinnamon sold in Illinois has been recalled because it may be contaminated with lead. Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning with the UPC 794711005484 is affected by the recall; it was sold in 90-gram transparent plastic containers with lot code GAP11304.

Short-term exposure to low levels of lead may not cause symptoms other than elevated blood lead levels. If a child is exposed to lead for a few weeks to a few months, permanent damage can occur to the central nervous system, according to the FDA.

This ground cinnamon product was recalled on Sept. 24, according to the FDA. Here are the states it was sold in and what impacted consumers should do.

Consider supporting this great cause!

Jesey County ROSC has had the pleasure of hosting free community laundry day events monthly since this past May. This has been possible due to generous donations from businesses and community members.

We currently do not have any other laundry days on the schedule and are looking for sponsors! These have been a HUGE success.

Please reach out to Rachel @ 618-498-9565 x320 or by email @ [email protected] to sponsor a free laundry event.
