Today is National First Responder Day!
We want to recognize all of the hard working professionals who keep people safe in and outside of our park.
From the EMS technicians, to the Volunteer Fire Department, to the Star Flight pilots, and Sheriff's Dept, we are always thankful for your presence.
Thank you from all of the staff here at Pedernales Falls State Park!

While the odds of you coming across a bouncing spike ball on our trails are low, they aren't zero.
Porcupines are not known for their speed but this one had somewhere to go! Normally we see porcupines climbing trees slowly, like sloths, or waddling through the grass. When this one came out of the trees in front of one of our rangers, they decided to take the path of least resistance to make their escape.
No rangers were quilled in the making of this film.

Are you smelling what we're smelling?
Walking down to the falls, you are sure to smell the Texas Kidneywood that is in bloom! These fragrant flowers are now abuzz with activity, as pollinators rush to collect as much nectar as they can before winter comes.
If you're already in a park, then telling you to stop and smell the flowers feels a little redundant, but we're going to say it anyway!

We are looking for someone to help take care of the park, whether that means minor construction, landscaping, plumbing, public interactions, search and rescue, or surveying wildlife. You'll be wearing lots of different hats with us!

*Edit: we got our days of the week mixed up! This is supposed to say Thursday October 22nd.

Thursday Oct. 22nd, Pedernales Falls will still be open to the public, but the Park Headquarters will be closed for the day. We'll see yall again on Friday.
To visit the park, you can use our self-pay station at the front of the headquarters building, or buy your pass online, and simply write the pass # on a self-pay envelope provided in front of the Park Headquarters.
As always if there is an emergency in the park, call 911.

Leaves starting to pile up? While we may not like a lawn covered in leaves, wild animals take every advantage of the chaos! This armadillo is collecting these leaves, likely to make it's burrow a bit more comfy for the wintertime.

Have you heard the buzz? These flowers are the place to be right now!
The Maximillian Sunflower is bright and blooming this month, and the pollinators have noticed! You can find bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, beetles, and flies on nearly every stalk of bright green and yellow. You can also find pollinator predators, hoping to ambush an unsuspecting insect.
So take some time this week to smell the flowers, but also keep your camera ready and who knows what you'll see!

Park Updates 10/03/2026
-While we have received significant rain through the Hill Country, the river here is largely unaffected. Water levels are still low, but the flow has picked up a little.

- The Burn Ban in Blanco County has been lifted! Wood and charcoal fires are now allowed in provided fire pits and bbq grills.

-Free Entry!! On November 1st we are celebrating Texas State Parks Day. You can visit any state park for free this day!

- Our Water/Electric Campsites are open through January 1st. We hope to begin a repair project in January 2027 that will force us to keep the campground or portions of it, closed.

- Fall colors are beginning to show! Our cedar elms and some of our oaks are beginning to turn colors and we are looking forward to the cooler weather that comes with that!
