🦋Restricted Reporting through SAPR allows survivors to engage in services while maintaining greater control over their anonymity and how much information is shared, within applicable reporting requirements.

Yesterday, the Cornell case (CBS) brought a similar sense of relief to those directly or indirectly connected to sexual assault. Seeing these experiences acknowledged and brought into the public conversation can have a meaningful impact.

When professionals lead with the intention to do no further harm, they contribute to ethical, survivor-centered practices that advance healing, accountability, and trust.

🦋 Having reasonable expectations for your therapist is ideal, especially your first time going.

It’s also okay to make a change if you need to.

Our victim advocates are here to help you navigate things like this, whether it’s your first time or you’re feeling stuck.

“Why didn’t they fight back?” “Why did they stay?” “Why did they wait to report?””Why did they keep hanging out with them?”

Sexual assault doesn’t always produce the reactions people expect. Research found 70% of women in one study experienced tonic immobility—an involuntary “freeze” response—during r**e.

Survivors may freeze, maintain contact with the perpetrator, minimize what happened, or delay reporting. These behaviors can be survival responses—not evidence that an assault didn’t occur.

Understanding trauma helps us respond with compassion instead of judgment.

🦋 Seeing sexual assault in the news or on social media can bring up unexpected emotions, memories, or trauma. You don’t have to keep watching or reading.

Give yourself permission to step away, take a break, reconnect with people you trust, and do what helps you feel safe and grounded. Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s part of healing.

You are not alone, and you don’t have to engage with every story to care about the issue.

Today, we want to recognize and thank Principal SARC Lynnette Iams for her dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the Iowa National Guard’s SAPR program.

Lynnette has been instrumental in moving our program forward in such a short time. Her time, energy, and investment in our team and the Service members we support have made a lasting impact on the program and its continued growth. She’s grown with the program over her time in the Guard and in her civilian role. She’s made key partnerships that will forever help those victims in the Guard be helped when they need it the most.

As Lynnette prepares to pass the torch to Ms. Jennifer Nissen on October 1, we extend our sincere gratitude for all she has contributed and the foundation she has helped build.

Thank you, Lynnette, for your leadership, your service, and your commitment to those we serve.

Your impact will continue well beyond this transition.
