🚨UPDATE ON SEXUAL OFFENSE🚨

NEW INFORMATION

The suspect in this arrest, for an adult having sexual in*******se with a child under 14 years old, Alpha Barry, is a citizen of Guinea. ICE has filed a detainer for Mr. Barry seeking his deportation from a prior proceeding. ICE learned of Mr. Barry’s incarceration through its access to the National Data Base of arrests in the United States.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office does not now nor have we in the past had any formal or informal agreements with ICE, of the kind banned recently under New York Law regarding our Correctional Facility and ICE.

This is one of those type of situations which led Fulton County Sheriff Giardino to join the handful of other Sheriff’s in NYS who have filed a lawsuit against the State challenging the new law.

Our Sheriff’s Office will always back up other law enforcement officers with calls for assistance to prevent harm to the other law enforcement officers and to our citizens.

On October 18, 2026 at approximately 12:30 am while on routine patrol a Fulton County Deputy Sheriff did note suspicious activity in a vehicle behind a business in the Town of Johnstown.

Upon further investigation a 20 year old male, Alpha Barry, was identified registered owner of the vehicle and the male been in the vehicle with an underage female. The female was 13 years old and both admitted that sexual in*******se had occurred. They had met on a social media site.

The Deputy transported Mr. Barry to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office where he was questioned further and arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and R**e 2d Degree,

Bail was set at $75,000 cash $150,000 Bond. The defendant was remanded to the Fulton County Correctional Facility.

While probable cause existed for an arrest, all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law.

Happy Halloween from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office! As you head out to all the community Trunk-or-Treat events and neighborhood streets, let's keep safety our top priority. 🎃🚗🍬

🎃Trunk-or-Treats are a fantastic, controlled way for our youth to celebrate, but they still require a watchful eye.
As your Sheriff, I ask all parents, participants, and drivers to keep these quick safety reminders in mind:

• Trunk-or-Treat Safety: Parents, please keep a close eye on your children as they navigate crowded parking lots. Vehicles should remain completely parked with engines off during the event.

• Be Bright & Visible: It gets dark early—make sure costumes have reflective tape, and carry flashlights or glow sticks so drivers can see you clearly.

• Check the Loot: Whether gathered from a trunk or a porch, always inspect all candy and treats at home before letting your kids eat them. Discard anything unwrapped.

• Motorists, Slow Down: Expect heavy pedestrian traffic near local churches, schools, and parks hosting trunk-or-treats, as well as on residential streets. Drive with extra caution.

Let's work together to make this a safe, memorable, and happy Halloween for all Fulton County families!🎃🚗🍬

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District partnered with WTEN, WRGB, and Fulton County Area News to launch a major school bus safety campaign.

As school buses hit the roads every day, keeping students safe is a community-wide responsibility. This joint initiative aims to remind drivers of the laws surrounding school bus stops and the critical importance of staying alert.

🛑 Know the Law: When to Stop

• Red Flashing Lights: You must stop from either direction when a bus has its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended.
• Divided Highways: Drivers must stop even on divided highways, multi-lane roads, and school grounds.
• The Penalty: First-time offenders face heavy fines, driver's license points, and potential jail time.

🚌 Tips for a Safer Commute

• For Drivers: Slow down in school zones, put away distractions, and anticipate children waiting at corners.
• For Students: Stand at least six feet back from the curb while waiting and always cross the street in front of the bus, never behind it.

A huge thank you to our local media partners at WTEN, WRGB, and Fulton County Area News for helping us broadcast this life-saving message across the region. Let’s work together to ensure every child gets to and from school safely!

🚌 STOP FOR THE BUS! 🛑
Did you know that an estimated 50,000 vehicles illegally pass stopped school buses in New York State every single day? Every single time a driver ignores those flashing red lights, a child's life is put at risk.

We are partnering with the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District to crack down on reckless driving. Deputies will be riding on school buses and monitoring active routes in both marked and unmarked patrol vehicles to catch violators.

The Law is Clear:
• You must stop for a school bus with flashing red lights, whether you are approaching from the front or overtaking from behind.
• This applies on all roads—including two-lane roads, multi-lane highways, divided highways, and school grounds.
The Penalties:

Yellow lights mean the bus is slowing down. Red lights mean STOP. Let's keep our kids safe.
