I appreciate the invitation to attend today's ribbon cutting for Competitive Power Ventures' (CPVs') Rogues Wind project in Chest Township.

CPV is a leading North American developer, owner and operator of both highly efficient, low-emitting electric and renewable generation projects. They're based in Silver Spring, MD, but also have facilities in Portage (Maple Hill Solar) and Jackson Township (Fairview Energy Center).

This is the third time CV is repurposing a former coalmine (brownfield) land area.

CV also chose the opportunity to present a $20,000 check to the Cambria County Regional Firefighters Association as a donation to their John Bem Tuition Assistance program!

Pennsylvania’s volunteer firefighters numbered somewhere north of 360,000 in the 1970s. In 50 years, that figure has dropped to somewhere above 36,000. Why?

That’s one of the questions we addressed Friday during a House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee hearing at the Cambria County Regional Firefighter's Association Fire School.

I appreciate them for their hospitality in hosting us and the committee chairmen, Rep. Jared Solomon and PA State Rep. Mark Gillen, for taking us on the road to see this tremendous training and teaching tool up close and personal.

The answer to that question is too complicated for us to solve in one hearing. But it’s a question we need to take seriously for the sake of our communities locally AND nationally.

As a former emergency responder, I can make the pledge to do all I can to support the men and women who are there for us in our time of need because their time of need is now.

A great product with a great story...

On Thursday, I toured the Galliker Dairy Company, which began more than 100 years ago when Louis Galliker emigrated to America from Switzerland where his family had long been involved in the dairy business. The Shreve Ice Cream Company was purchased in 1914 and became the Galliker Ice Cream Company before adding milk to its production lines in 1925.

The idea for the iconic Lightsafe Yellow Jug belonged to Louis Galliker III and protects milk’s essential vitamins and nutrients from the adverse effects of light.

This great local business still has members of the Galliker family involved in dairy operations, with Executive Vice President Julia Galliker at the helm...and don't get me started on their chocolate milk. 🏆
