We couldn’t have asked for a better Saturday at Family Fun Fest in Joliet!

The day was filled with laughter, music, games, raffle prizes, and so much more! A huge thank-you to everyone who came out and helped make this event so special, including our special guests, Beauty and the Beast, and visitors from the dark side of the Star Wars universe!

It was such a joy to see so many smiling faces as we handed out goodies and made memories with our community. Thank you for spending your Saturday with us!

Week of WILCO Area Career Center!

We absolutely loved getting a look inside Wilco’s Veterinary Assisting program!

Students learn about animal science, anatomy, nutrition, safety, veterinary terminology, and hands-on animal care.

You could immediately see how much curiosity and compassion these students brought to their work. They were given the opportunity to take what they were learning and put it into action, with educators encouraging them, answering questions, and sharing real-world knowledge along the way.

It was easy to see that these students are preparing for careers they genuinely care about.

ROE READS: Celebrating National Book Month!

Throughout October, we’re celebrating National Book Month by getting to know the readers here at the Will County Regional Office of Education! Each week, we’ll be featuring members of our staff and learning more about what they’re reading.

Today, we have the pleasure of featuring Craig Fantin, whose current read is written by his friend Dr. Lori Campbell!

His current read: Work Shouldn't Hurt by Dr. Lori Campbell

This book exposes the hidden epidemic of hostile work environments, showing how toxic cultures of bullying, discrimination, and neglect destroy employee well-being. Through research, real-world stories, and legal insights, it provides actionable guidance to help leaders and employees dismantle these harmful dynamics and build psychologically safe workplaces

His favorite book: Friday Night Lights by H. G. Bissinger

This book follows the 1988 season of the Permian High School Panthers, a football team carrying the pride and desperation of a socially and racially divided West Texas town. Through the lives of these teenage players, the book exposes how a community's obsession with high school sports can eclipse education and place crushing pressure on young athletes.

We love celebrating the readers and lifelong learners who make up our ROE community!

Question of the day:
What book do you think everyone should read at least once?

Week of WILCO Area Career Center!

Spark, skill, and a whole lot of hands-on learning!

Wilco’s Welding & Fabrication program gives students experience with industry-standard welding and cutting processes, blueprint reading, equipment operation, and project-based learning.

One thing that stood out to us was the focus and confidence in the room. Students were working through new skills and putting what they learned into practice, while instructors gave them the expertise and encouragement to keep improving.

There was no shortage of sparks — or future tradespeople!

Week of WILCO Area Career Center!

One of the sweetest stops on our visit to Wilco was the Early Childhood Education program!

Students get real classroom experience by working directly with children ages 3–5 in Wilco’s Preschool Lab while learning about child development, safety, nutrition, lesson planning, and more.

We loved seeing how eager students were to jump in and learn, while their educators stayed close behind, ready with guidance, encouragement, and the knowledge needed to help them succeed.

This is what hands-on learning is all about!
