The next race to feature on the November 3rd ballot is for District Attorney.

When voters go to the polls to elect a District Attorney, it’s important to understand that, unlike the Judge’s race, one person is elected to serve the entire judicial DISTRICT—not just one parish.

Since the judicial district includes three parishes (Bienville, Claiborne and Jackson) the person elected District Attorney will serve as the DA for all three parishes.

The District Attorney plays an important role in our criminal justice system, but many people may not fully understand the responsibilities of the office.

A District Attorney is an elected official who represents the State in criminal prosecutions. The DA’s office reviews criminal cases presented by law enforcement, determines whether charges are appropriate, prosecutes cases in court, works with victims and their families, and seeks justice based on the facts and the law.

Our justice system works best when citizens understand the responsibilities of each office within it. An informed public helps strengthen trust, accountability, and confidence in the judicial process.

Candidates for District Attorney are:

Colby Bowman
Jim Colvin
Tammy Jump
Rick Warren

The candidates are listed in alphabetical order as they appear on the La Secretary of State’s website.

Please do your research on each candidate. Be informed. Your vote is your voice.

I wanted to take a break from the candidates and inform you we will have 10 constitutional amendments on the ballot. Yes, 10! 😳

The attachment below ⬇️ is the non-partisan Public Affairs Research Council’s report on the amendments we will be voting on this November 3rd. They break it down to help the public understand what a yes vote will do and what at no vote will do.

Please review them carefully. I will have some copies printed at the Clerk’s office if you want to swing by and pick up a copy.

This post is NOT an endorsement or disapproval of any amendment by the office of the Jackson Parish Clerk of Court. It is simply to inform the public of what is on the ballot.

Another race on the November 3rd ballot is for District Judge. The 2nd Judicial District Court is comprised of the jurisdictional boundaries of Claiborne, Bienville and Jackson Parishes.

This Court has original jurisdiction of all civil and criminal matters arising within its jurisdictional boundaries, and the cases are assigned and allotted randomly and pursuant to certain established allotment rules of court to the three divisions (Division A, Division B and Division C) of the court.

The court handles lots of different types of work, but the largest part of the judicial business are family law matters, property/succession cases, and of course, a heavy criminal docket.

There are three judges that serve this Court, and while the three judges are elected from the entire district (meaning all three parishes) they are elected to fill a particular division of court.

Division A is Claiborne Parish. There are 2 candidates running for this seat:

Rachel Wiggins Bays
Patrick Jefferson

Division B is Jackson Parish. There are 2 candidates running for this seat:

Clay Carroll
Yumeaka Robinson Washington

Division C is Bienville Parish. This division will not be on the ballot as Robert Moore was unopposed.

The candidates are listed in alphabetical order as they appear on the La Secretary of State’s website.

Please do your research on each candidate. Be informed. Your vote is your voice.
