Today is National Emergency Medical Services Su***de Awareness Day.
In air medical transport, our crews are called to the most critical scenes on someone’s worst day. For the flight nurses, flight paramedics, pilots, mechanics, dispatchers, and ground EMS partners working alongside Hospital Wing 8 right here in Jonesboro and across Northeast Arkansas—the physical and emotional weight of that service is real.
You spend your shifts saving lives, keeping calm in the sky, and bringing hope to others. But behind the flight suits and radios, first responders carry heavy burdens: chronic stress, cumulative trauma, and burnout.
You don’t have to carry it alone. Asking for support isn't a sign of weakness—it’s an essential tool for survival.
If you, a crewmate, or a loved one is struggling, free and confidential support is available 24/7:
* National Su***de & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 (Press 1 if you are a veteran)
* Safe Call Now: Call 206-459-3020 (A confidential, comprehensive 24/7 crisis line founded by first responders, for first responders)
* The Code Green Campaign: Mental health advocacy, peer resources, and education specifically for EMS and first responders at codegreencampaign.org
* First H.E.L.P.: Dedicated support, su***de awareness, and resources for first responders and their families at 1sthelp.org
* Crisis Text Line: Text BADGE or HOME to 741741 to connect with a crisis counselor
To our Hospital Wing 8 team and every first responder in Craighead County and beyond: thank you for your service, your bravery, and your heart.
Please check on your partners, talk openly, and remember that your life matters just as much as the lives you fight to save.
