Our visit to “Death Comes to Sabine Hill” in Elizabethton was a fascinating evening filled with history, tradition, and a touch of Halloween fun! 🕯️ Before our 7:30 p.m. candlelit tour, we enjoyed a hearty dinner at the Mayflower Restaurant, then stepped back in time with costumed interpreters from Sycamore Shoals State Park who brought historic funeral preparations, mourning rituals, and society’s expectations for grieving to life. Some participants dressed in traditional funeral attire, while others embraced the season with festive outfits and Halloween accessories! 🎃 It was an intriguing blend of historical discovery, spooky-season spirit, and great fellowship!
NOTE: Lack of lighting made a few photos blurry....but still gives the feel of the evening. 😉

Our Wild Pony & Leaf-Peeping Tour to Grayson Highlands State Park in Mouth of Wilson, VA, was nothing short of breathtaking! 🍂 As we climbed higher into the mountains, there were plenty of “oohs” and “ahhs” as vibrant fall colors, peaceful mountain streams, and charming little waterfalls unfolded around every bend. The highlight was catching a glimpse of the park’s famous wild ponies…a special treat that’s never guaranteed and made our adventure all the more memorable! 🐴🍁 We wrapped up this spectacular day with a delicious lunch at Riverfront Restaurant in Chilhowie.
