One important misconception is that roots routinely break into perfectly sound pressurized water pipes because they're looking for water.
A root is much more likely to exploit an existing opening, weak joint, leaking fitting, damaged pipe, or disturbed soil around the utility. As the root gets larger, however, it can turn a minor problem into a significant one.
During high winds, a large tree can sway enough that the root plate moves. If plumbing passes through that root zone, the movement can exert substantial force on the pipe.

💧🌵 Now is a Great Time to Check Your Irrigation System!
As temperatures begin to cool, it’s a great time to inspect and maintain your irrigation system before heading into the fall and winter months.
Take a few minutes to walk your property and look for:
- 💦 Broken or leaking irrigation lines
- 🔧 Damaged or clogged emitters
- 🌱 Drippers that have moved away from plants
- ⏱️ Irrigation timers that may need seasonal adjustments
- 🚿 Signs of overwatering, pooling, or unexpected wet spots
A little maintenance now can help prevent leaks, reduce water waste, and keep your landscape healthy as its watering needs change with the season.
🌵 Remember: Cooler weather usually means your plants need less water, so don’t forget to adjust those timers!
