We were proud to work with everyone on the call. The weather conditions were terrible, but everyone at the scene did not let that stop what they were doing. Good job everyone!

09/11/2026

Although time goes by, we will never forget…
Those heroes who ran towards danger to help their fellow man, those innocent lives lost on that day, and many since,
those heroes that stepped up to defend our country,
those families who suffered unspeakable pain,
those volunteers who gave all they could,
and those who sacrificed everything…
We will never forget, and we will forever be grateful.
For it is in courage, strength, and fortitude that we bond together, it is in love of country in our fellow man that we stay united.
It is in the memory of those we lost, that we will remember them with honor, for they shall never be forgotten, nor diminished, and they stand a testament to us all of what hero is truly is.
Never Forgotten. Forever Remembered.

Geary County Rural Fire along with Dwight Fire responded shortly after 7am this morning to a report of large bales of hay on fire. The location was in the southeastern part of Geary County on Stahl Road.
Upon arrival, about 294 large bales were either on fire or smoldering. the residents were trying to move the ones that were not affected.
Nearby farmers arrived with large machinery that had spokes on them. A plan was made to have them move the bales to a open area to the east. Fire units were set up along the route t hose down the front of the machinery to keep the hydraulic lines from catching fire.
Geary County Fire was released from the scene about 10:15 hrs while Dwight Fire remained on scene to finish up. Eastimated loss is unknown at this time.

On Monday, July 27 at approximately 11:00am, fire units were dispatched to Flag Stop Campground in the city of Milford for a camper on fire. The fire had also spread to a nearby pontoon boat. Geary County Fire, City of Milford Fire, and Ft. Riley Fire responded. A med unit from Junction City KS Fire Department was also sent to the scene. Wakefield Fire responded with a tender unit to assist with water supply.
Two nearby campers also sustained damage on the outside from the fire. Fire units were able to extinguish the fires. A Kansas State Fire Marshal Investigator along with a Geary County Fire Investigator concluded that the fire was most likely caused by a roof-top air conditioner on the top of the camper.
There were no injuries during the fire or fire suppression.

This morning, representatives from Geary County Rural Fire, Grandview Plaza KS Fire Departmentand City of Milford worked with Scott technicians from FELD Fire to inventory and prepare all of the new air pacs for service. A recent FEMA A.F.G. Grant allowed the three departments to replace old, outdated air pacs ata 5% local match. These air pacs and cylinders would have cost the local taxpayers over $670,000 dollars; but by receiving the grant, the local match is around $25,000. A total of 69 air pacs, 138 cylinders and 3 rescue pacs were received on the grant.
Over the next couple of weeks, the departments will be getting their volunteer firefighters fit tested on the masks and moving the pacs and equipment onto the fire units.
The photos show the 7 pallets of equipment received, volunteers separating the equipment for each department and getting the pacs and cylinders logged into the Scott database and applying a local ID to each piece of equipment.
These air pacs mirror the pacs that Junction City KS Fire Department currently use, so in the event of a large fire, equipment can be shared if necessary.

Progress is being made on the addition to Station 4 (Barr Road). Once completed the two trucks that are sharing space in the old part will each have their own area and door to respond out of. Additionally, plans are to place a 2,000 gallon tanker in the third bay. The tanker would respond on all calls and provide extra water as there are no hydrants in that part of Geary County.
Stay tuned for more photos as progress towards building completion continues.

Progress on the addition to Station 4 is still progressing. The recent rains had slowed down the work, but the contractor was able to get the landing and steps poured on Wednesday. Today, they were able to get the main floor for the 2 bays poured, even with a light mist falling. Soon the walls to the addition will be going up.
