Good afternoon, SE AK! Enjoy the sunny start to the weekend, a rare occasion for the fall season. Conditions will improve throughout the day across most areas, though parts of the southern panhandle will remain under a blanket of thin high clouds until tomorrow. High pressure building in the Gulf will keep the panhandle mostly clear and dry, with no rain in the forecast until next week. Clear skies will bring cooler overnight temperatures, dropping into the low to mid 30s, with northern areas potentially seeing upper 20s.

Outflow winds will pick up tonight through Saturday. While overall impacts will be minimal, land areas exposed to northerlies, such as Skagway, could see gusts up to 30 mph overnight. Winds are expected to calm across the region by tomorrow.

Good Evening SE AK,
Benign weather continues as we head into the weekend. Rain showers may continue tomorrow, but they will be on a diminishing trend with a drier day expected for Saturday. We are watching Saturday because weak outflow is anticipated due to a low moving south of the panhandle. This will increase winds across the inside channels and create breezy conditions for some land areas. On Sunday, a weak system pushes through the gulf into the panhandle. The main thing you may notice on Sunday is some light precipitation and increased cloud cover. This benign weather then looks to continue into the start of next week. See weather.gov/Juneau for more forecast information.

Good evening SE AK,
Showers will continue through tomorrow before we see a drier period for the weekend. Along with drier weather, clearing skies will allow for colder overnight minimum temperatures into the 30s, with the chance of northern areas seeing temperatures fall into the mid to high 20s.

One thing we are monitoring is the potential for increased breezy winds Saturday as a low moves to the south of the panhandle. Strongest winds are currently anticipated to be over Lynn Canal, and the northern inner channels. We will continue to monitor these winds and low temperatures. Check weather.gov/juneau for the most up to date forecasts.

Good morning Southeast Alaska!

The strong front behind yesterday's gusty winds has moved east into British Columbia early this morning. In its wake, expect partly cloudy skies, lighter winds, and hit or miss rain showers through Thursday as a low moves across the northern Gulf. ☔️

Looking ahead to Friday and the weekend, we're growing more confident in a break from the rain, with clearing skies Friday and Saturday. Those clear skies will also let temperatures drop overnight. Friday and Saturday night lows look likely to fall into the 30s for most of the area, with upper 20s possible around Juneau, Haines, Skagway, and Hyder, and upper teens near White Pass.

Hang in there, Juneau! Conditions are steadily beginning to improve with the front having passed almost all the way through. Here are some of the highest wind gusts observed today across Juneau, with most areas at the surface seeing 55 to almost 65 mph gusts this afternoon.

A few sites of note are some of our higher-elevation observations, which include Eaglecrest (88 mph), the Mount Roberts Tram (79 mph), Lemon Glacier (145 mph), and Sheep Mountain (131 mph). Although these sites may be as high as 4000 ft in elevation, they can give us a great idea of how fast the winds are blowing just above us.
