The Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (Tlingit & Haidal) is a federally recognized tribe with inherent sovereignty derived from the Tlingit and Haida nations who have occupied Southeast Alaska from time immemorial. We have a rich history built on our strong respect for the resources of the lands and waters of our majestic homeland. We are proud of our ability to incorporate professional administration systems as we manage our resources and advocate the issues of our people.

Recognizing Excellence in Public Safety

Join us in congratulating two members of Tlingit & Haida's Public Safety team for their outstanding service and dedication to the communities they serve!
Regional Public Safety Officer (RPSO) Sean Ahshapanek received a commendation from the State Director for his contributions to the Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO) program.

Pelican VPSO Kaila Sanders was named VPSO of the Year, recognizing her commitment to serving and protecting her community.
VPSOs do more than respond to emergencies. They build relationships, support community preparedness, promote safety and serve as trusted resources for the people and communities they serve.

These recognitions highlight the important role our public safety officers play in strengthening the safety and well-being of Southeast Alaska communities.

Congratulations, Sean and Kaila. Thank you for your service and dedication.

This month, we wear pink to honor the fighters, celebrate the survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and stand with everyone affected by breast cancer.

Prioritize your health - early detection and regular screenings can save lives. Together, we can spread awareness, hope and support.

Education rooted in culture means getting kids out on the land.

Tlingit & Haida’s Haa Yoo X’atángi Kúdi Lingít immersion program took preschoolers out to harvest S’ikshaldéen.

In English, it’s called Hudson Bay Tea, Labrador Tea, Swamp/Tundra Tea. In Xaad Kíl the word is Xíl Kagán.

The leaves will be dried and used to make tea for family nights and community gatherings.
