DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER

Do you know someone who has been the victim of an impaired driver? Many families have lost loved ones to fatal crashes that have been caused by an impaired driver. They happen every year, right here in Dodge County. Many others have been severely injured by impaired drivers. The goal of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is to do everything we can to prevent these crashes from occurring and spare families in the future from tragedy due to the senseless choice made by impaired drivers.

While we certainly understand that some may be suffering from an addiction, making a conscious choice to get behind the wheel of an automobile while impaired is a choice outside of that addiction. If you make the decision to drive while impaired in Dodge County, your arrest will be made public.

If you don’t want your photo being made public, DON’T OPERATE WHILE IMPAIRED and you WON’T BE ARRESTED.

We ask for everyone’s cooperation in keeping our highways safe from impaired driving in hopes that our deputies will no longer have to respond to fatal motor vehicle crashes in which alcohol or drugs is a contributing factor. If the sheriff’s office policy of posting OWI arrests saves just one life on our highway, then we have accomplished our goal.

Finally, this post reports an arrest which is a public record which the Supreme Court indicates is releasable under the Wisconsin law and have been released to the media everyday for the last 20 years. It is important to remember that all persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The following photos and information depict those arrested by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office during the previous week for operating while intoxicated offenses:

DODGE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ACHIEVES RE-ACCREDITATION!

At the September 15 Dodge County Board meeting, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office was recognized for successfully completing its re-accreditation through the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG), earning another three years of accredited status.

Dennis Nasci, Interim Executive Director of WILEAG, was present to discuss the benefits of law enforcement accreditation and recognize the Sheriff’s Office for its accomplishments throughout the accreditation process.

Accreditation helps ensure law enforcement agencies meet established professional standards, follow sound policies and procedures, and continually evaluate their operations. The process reinforces accountability, professionalism, and public trust while encouraging continuous improvement.

During his presentation, Dennis highlighted the outstanding work of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office team throughout the accreditation process. He praised how well our team worked together and shared that the accreditation team was extremely impressed with our personnel and their efforts.

Following the presentation, Dennis presented the accreditation plaque to the Sheriff’s Office administrative team, recognizing our successful re-accreditation for the next three years.

Dodge County is one of only four Wisconsin counties with an accredited Sheriff’s Office, joining Winnebago, Waukesha, and Walworth counties.

Sheriff Dale Schmidt, Chief Deputy Chad Enright, Captain Jason Boeck, and Captain Scott Smith are proud of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by our staff throughout this process.

Accreditation is not simply about meeting standards. It reflects our commitment to continuous improvement, professional service, accountability, and providing the citizens of Dodge County with the highest level of law enforcement service possible.

Thank you to our entire team for the work you do every day and for helping the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office maintain these high standards. This accomplishment belongs to all of you!

Fatal Single Vehicle Crash

On October 12, 2026, at approximately 7:29 p.m., Dodge County Deputies were dispatched to a single‑vehicle crash involving a 2004 International straight truck with a dump body on County Highway P near N. Columbus Street in Randolph, Wisconsin.

The investigation determined that the International truck was traveling westbound on County Highway P with the dump body in a raised position when the dump body struck an overhead wire. This caused the truck to overturn, trapping the driver inside. The driver, a 71‑year‑old male from rural Randolph, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Assisting at the scene were the Randolph Police Department, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Fox Lake Police Department, Randolph Fire Department and Randolph EMS, Fox Lake Fire Department, Beaver Dam Paramedics, Dodge County Emergency Response Team, and the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The name of the driver is being withheld pending family notification. This crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team.

Questions may be directed to Sheriff Dale J. Schmidt.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

On Thursday, 10/08/2026, at approximately 6:58 a.m., the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on State Highway 16/60 at County Road BB in the Town of Elba.

Initial investigation showed that a GMC SUV was traveling westbound on State Highway 16/60. A semi, tractor/trailer was traveling southbound on County Highway BB. The semi failed to stop at the stop sign, striking the SUV. As a result of this crash, the driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi was transported to Prairie Ridge Hospital with minor injuries. The decedent was identified as a 77-year-old man from Jefferson, Wisconsin. The driver of the semi was identified as a 28-year-old man from Waterloo, Wisconsin.

State Highway 16/60 remained closed for nearly three hours while members of the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team completed the investigation. While this was happening, a Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Officer (CSO) was performing traffic control at the intersection of State Highway 16/60 and County Highway T. A motorist struck the CSO vehicle, which was equipped with emergency lights activated, causing the vehicle to strike the CSO. The CSO was transported to Prairie Ridge Hospital with suspected minor injuries. That crash is under investigation by Wisconsin State Patrol. The sheriff's office would like to stress paying attention to the roadway and avoiding distracted driving. Currently, both crashes remain under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.

Assisting at the scene were the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office, Dodge County Emergency Response Team, Lifestar Ambulance Service, Columbus Fire Department, Columbus Police Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
