There is still some good leaf-peeping out here at the Arboretum! Katsura, Japanese, and other maples are glowing. ✨ Devil's club and red-twig dogwoods are changing color, while Astilbe is still blooming. If you live in town, we hope you come enjoy the fall foliage this weekend!

There's nothing quite like summer in Juneau! The Arboretum had a great season with nearly 11,000 visitors. 🌼 Here are some highlights from this summer:

• More than 172 children visited with youth groups or school groups, or took part in our educational programs ✏️
• We hosted 668 family activities, including Mother's Day, Theater Alaska performances, weddings, and the piano series 🌹
• 12 elders from the Pioneer Home joined us 🫶
• 16 amazing volunteers helped with garden care and events 🪏
• Nearly 50 pounds of fresh-grown produce were delivered to local nonprofits 🥕
• Lots of visits from animal friends! 🦌

We are already looking forward to next summer, but for now, we hope you'll stop by to see the autumn colors this beautiful fall weekend! 🍂

It was busy at the Arboretum last week! 🌤️

The Juneau Parks & Recreation Parks & Landscape Maintenance crews helped shred tree trimmings, spread chips and gravel, and trim perennials. We checked some tasks off the to-do list before winter arrives! ✅

Students from the Tlingit Culture, Language, and Literacy program also harvested Tlingit potatoes at the Arboretum. 🥔 They planted the potatoes in the spring and returned on a beautiful, sunny day to dig them up. Thank you to Friends of Jensen-Olson Arboretum for sponsoring transportation for the students!

It's all about leaves this time of year! 🍂

Beginning on October 2, the arboretum will be open Fridays through Sundays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will close for the winter from November 2 through January 2, so come enjoy the scenery while you can!

The plants are enjoying the nice weather, and we hope you are too! So far, there is a bit of fall color around the crown...

Recently, young artists got the opportunity to paint at the Jensen-Olson Arboretum while enjoying beautiful weather! Local artist Kelsey Hoke led the children through a vibrant painting workshop, giving them a chance to be creative and try something new. 🎨 Thank you to those who volunteer their time to make these events possible!
