We promised we'd never forget.

No one has been issued badge 17 since and no one will ever wear it again, it eternally belongs to Officer Conklin

Officer Conklin was murdered in the line of duty, after three short years of being a police officer for the City of Hastings.

On October 9th, 1993 around 10pm, Officer Conklin responded to a report of a domestic disturbance. While on scene he was fatally shot, giving the ultimate sacrifice.

In the history of the Hastings Police Department, Officer Conklin is one of only two fallen officers. He was 37 years old. Officer Conklin is survived by his wife Deb and daughter Tracy.

Officer Joel Conklin’s memory lives on.

The members of the JVFD extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Shawn Hansen, a long-time member of the Hastings Rural Fire Department.

When a fellow member is lost, it is felt through the whole community as we are one large family dedicated to service. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved Shawn.

Thanks for the invite for this wonderful way to remember and honor those who have fallen and what they endured 25 years ago. We cannot wait until next year!

🇺🇸 25 YEARS. WE WILL NEVER FORGET. 🇺🇸

On September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed when the Twin Towers were struck, taking thousands of innocent lives and calling upon heroes to run toward danger while others ran away.

343 firefighters and 60 police officers made the ultimate sacrifice that day. They entered the towers knowing the risks, driven by the same commitment that firefighters everywhere share: to serve, to protect, and to help those in need.

Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the countless first responders who put everything on the line.

Today, we honor their courage.
We honor their sacrifice.
We honor their memory.

May we never forget September 11, 2001.
May we never forget the 343.
May we never forget. 🇺🇸🚒

September 11, 2001 is a day that lives vividly in our head whether we were in New York City or across the world. It’s a day that shook the fire service and this beloved country at the core.

Tomorrow marks 25 years of that devastating day and we would be honored if you would join us at our ceremony to remember the fallen. We understand that many may not be able to attend physically so there will be a livestream on our page tomorrow morning as well.

We also want to hear your story. Where were you the day it happened and how did you feel the following days?
