Police Respond to Disturbance at Local Business

KALAMA, WA – On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at approximately 3:02 a.m., officers with the Kalama Police Department responded to Center Market, located at 119 N. 1st Street, following a report of a disturbance involving an individual who entered the business claiming someone was attempting to harm him.

Upon arrival, an officer contacted the individual, who was behaving erratically and refusing repeated requests to leave the business. The officer requested additional assistance, and deputies with the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

During an attempt to take the individual into custody, a physical struggle occurred between the individual and responding law enforcement personnel. During the struggle, a Kalama police officer deployed a Taser, after which the individual was successfully taken into custody.

The individual was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation following the incident. No injuries to responding law enforcement personnel were reported.

The Kalama Police Department is conducting a supervisory review of the incident in accordance with department policy.

Id' like to introduce our new police Records Clerk.....

Haylee joins us from the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office Records Division, where she has worked for nearly three years. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in public records, law enforcement case files, and records processes that will be a valuable addition to our department as we continue to develop and modernize our processes.

A little about Haylee:

Haylee is a lifelong Cowlitz County resident and currently resides in Kalama. Outside of work, she enjoys baking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She attended Kelso High School and Lower Columbia College and is currently enrolled at Western Governors University, where she is working toward a bachelor’s degree in business management. In January of this year, she earned her certification from the Washington Association of Public Records Officers. She is looking forward to bringing her experience and knowledge to the department while continuing to learn, grow, and develop new skills in her new role.

We’re excited to have Haylee joining our team.

🚌 Back to School Safety Alert for Kalama Families! 🚲
As the new school year kicks off, we’re asking all drivers to use extra caution around our walking, biking, and bus-riding Chinooks.
Please remember: Drivers who illegally pass a stopped school bus face a mandatory $500 fine that cannot be waived, reduced, or suspended.
To ensure our students stay safe, we’ve partnered with the Kalama Police Department. Beginning the week of September 21 (calls permitting), Kalama PD will be following school buses throughout the city to monitor traffic behavior and keep our routes secure.
The Eye-Opening Stats: • Washington bus drivers documented 960 illegal passes in a single day—that’s over 172,000 violations in a school year. • Nearly 341,000 WA students ride the bus daily, covering almost 100 million miles each year.
Please slow down, eliminate distractions, and always stop when a bus has its red lights flashing and stop paddle extended. Thank you for keeping our kids safe from the front door to the school door! 🛑
