8700 E. The Charter Township of Comstock is a community of thirty-five (35) square miles in eastern Kalamazoo County, which is located in the southwestern region of lower Michigan. It is bordered by the City and Township of Kalamazoo to the west, Richland Township to the north, Pavilion Township to the south, and Charleston Township to the east. The City of Galesburg also borders to the east. Comstock Township is served by highways I-94 and M-96, both bisecting the Township from east to west and running virtually parallel to each other separated by a distance of slightly more than one mile. Comstock was historically a farming community once a leading celery producer. In more recent years Comstock has seen economic growth that has been fast-paced with a heavy concentration in auto stamping and parts, plastics, specialty and industrial machine shops, and service-oriented businesses. However, it’s the greenhouses and bedding plan industry have made Comstock Township the Bedding Plant Capital of the World. Several lakes and streams provide excellent fishing and recreational activities. Morrow Lake is the dominant water body in the Township encompassing approximately 1,065 acres of land feed by the Kalamazoo River the runs the length of the township. Comstock Township is considered a part of the Kalamazoo Metro area and serves as a bedroom community to many residents who work in the City of Kalamazoo and other surrounding communities.

Last week, we were excited to have the groundbreaking ceremony for new Fire Station 9-3! Several FD members, township officials as well as community members were in attendance.

The new station location is 10080 E Michigan Ave. and upon completion will replace current Station 9-3 located at 8700 E Michigan Ave.

The event was hosted by CSM Group Kalamazoo who is the construction manager for the project.

The new station will be in a better strategic location to serve the community and has been in planning since 2018. The station is designed to support the department's current and future needs. The station will have five apparatus bays, dedicated living quarters, decontamination and gear storage areas, a multi-use community and training room, a 3 story non-burn training tower, among other modern functions.

The project is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2027/early 2028.

Jones Petrie Rafinski provided lead architecture, structural and civil engineering on the project.

Come out to show your support!

Celebrate our students as they parade from Comstock Middle School to Comstock High School on Friday, October 2, starting at 4:45. CHS Varsity Football will host the Cassopolis Rangers at 7 p.m. There will be a Homecoming dance for CHS students in the C**t Center after the game. Tickets are on sale at CHS during lunch this week.
