On Wednesday, October 14th, our K9 unit had the privilege of working alongside the Secret Service to assist with President Donald J. Trump’s visit to the Flathead Valley. Our handlers and their canine partners were assigned with other state, local and federal law enforcement and emergency service personnel. Assigned to motorcade security with the Northwest Montana Regional SWAT Team, explosive detection sniffs of vehicles in the motorcade and route security to and from the venue. We were honored to assist our federal partners with achieving a safe visit for President Trump and staff! 🇺🇸

On Sunday, 10/11, K9 Rosso and K9 Zora responded to Polson with the Northwest Montana Regional Swat (NWMRS) team to assist the Polson Police Department with an armed suspect refusing to submit to arrest. Once on scene, Rosso and Zora were paired with arrest teams established around the perimeter of the residence. After several announcements were provided via PA, the suspect ultimately surrendered to Rosso and was peacefully taken into custody. These incidents are a team effort by all involved and we are grateful to assist our neighboring agencies with our resources! Nice work Rosso and Zora!

On Sunday night, our unit and members of the Flathead K9 Foundation had the pleasure of attending a community event in Polebridge. Handlers from North Valley SAR and Flathead Search & Rescue joined us in discussing several topics, including the capabilities of our units. It is always a privilege for us to share information with the community during these events.

For those who are unaware, the Flathead K9 Foundation has been an amazing supporter of our unit, helping secure funds for the purchase of several canines and their protective equipment.

Last night, K9 Rosso and additional FCSO Deputies responded to assist Whitefish PD for an assault with a weapon suspect who was refusing to submit to arrest. As the incident unfolded, the Northwest Montana Regional Swat team was paged to provide additional resources on scene. The suspect ultimately exited and surrendered to Rosso. Great work to all law enforcement on scene and K9 Rosso for bringing a peaceful resolution to this incident!

In the past week, K9’s Rico, Rosso and Zora were deployed on numerous calls to assist local law enforcement agencies. These deployments included building searches, high risk vehicle stops, area searches and evidence recovery, with suspects taken into custody and evidence located. On 9/29, K9 Zora responded to assist Deputies with a shooting which occurred in Hungry Horse. Zora was deployed to conduct a search for the fi***rm used by the suspect during the incident. Zora successfully located the fi***rm, a key piece of evidence, which was concealed in the residence. Another example of the need for these resources in our community. Good job K9 Zora!

Last week, K9 Zora responded to three different incidents to assist both the Sheriff’s Office and the Kalispell Police Department. A pursuit suspect who fled from Deputies on a traffic stop, ultimately surrendered to Zora and was taken into custody. Zora assisted Kalispell PD with a building search after a burglary. Finally, Zora responded to Hungry Horse to assist Deputies in locating evidence from a shooting that occurred. Three great examples of how important canine resources are to the community. Nice work K9 Zora!

On Wednesday, 9/16, K9 Sherlock responded to assist Deputies with a suspicious device located near a walking bridge in Kalispell. The device had a fuse sticking out of one end and was wrapped in plastic. Sherlock was deployed and ultimately alerted to the device. The Missoula Co. Sheriff's Office EOD unit responded and took possession of the device. It was later determined to be a homemade explosive, which contained two of Sherlock’s target odors. Although this was a small device, some explosives can be extremely unstable and dangerous to handle. Great job K9 Sherlock, we are so grateful to have you in the Flathead Valley!
