We would like to thank Versova (Hawkeye Pride) in Corwith for the $2500 check we received back in February. With generous donation we were able to purchase new safety vest along with structural and extrication gloves for all 15 of our members.

Donations like these allow us to make updates to our equipment to better protect our members so they can return home safely to there families.

Thank you again Versova (Hawkeye Pride) from all of us!

On Monday night at our annual meeting we presented a service plaque to Firefighter Jermey Brogaard for his 15yrs of service and dedication to Kanawha Fire Department. As this ended the chapter for Jermey as a Kanawha fireman he stated his commitment to public service isn’t done yet and plans to serve somehow in Idaho were he now resides with his wife and two boys. We will miss having you around Jermey and we cant thank you enough for the past 15 years.

Jermey has served the roles of firefighter, assistant chief and treasure for our dept and association. He also attended multiple Tunnels To Towers 5ks, Fight for Air Climbs, and raised money for both of these events. Your dedication and commitment wont be forgotten. Best of luck on your next chapter in life and don’t be a stranger.

We would like to thank Jermeys wife and two boys as they sacrificed a-lot of family time away from Jermey as he attended or responded to fire meetings, trainings, calls, and fundraisers.

On March 28th and 29th three members attended PRI Rescue Weekend in Boone to extend their training and gain more knowledge on different topics.

Saturday/Sunday Assitant Chief (Layton Sousa) attended Big Rig Rescue which focused on larger scale accidents involving heavy equipment such as semis, telephone poles on vehicles and concrete trucks tipped over on top of a car! It allow crews to size up larger scale events and how to better work with tow trucks. These situations can happen anywhere and being trained is crucial when minute’s count.

Saturday (Phillip Kent) attended Confined Space to get a better of understanding on worse case scenarios of someone becoming trapped and how to keep yourself and the victim calm.

Sunday Fire Chief (Nat Hill), and Firefighter (Phillip Kent) attended the EV Fire to discuss the issues and topics of Electric Vehicle fires and proper ways to handle one. Fighting EV fires are different then a normal vehicle fire do to the large batteries on board and toxic fumes when fully engulfed.

We want to thank these three members for continuing there training to better themselves, department and community.

Training never stops but it’s what allows us to stay safe and prepared for the next call.

TRAIN FOR THE WORST AND PREPARE FOR THE BEST!!
