Thank you, State Representative Jackie Haas, for standing your ground and keeping us informed! Kankakee County families deserve leaders who have their backs and Jackie Haas has proven she’s one of them. 🇺🇸
SPRINGFIELD – In response to today’s passage of the FY27 budget in the Illinois General Assembly, State Representative Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee) released the following statement:
“Today, I voted no on the FY27 budget because it is not a truly balanced or responsible budget. We have another record-breaking budget this year, with the largest budget in state history at a total of $55.9 billion. To make the budget balanced, Illinois Democrats are also raising taxes on working families by $800 million.
“This constant tax-and-spend strategy is completely unsustainable. Families and seniors across Illinois are already at their limit, and this budget will only add to their burden. At a time when affordability is the top issue for Illinoisans, passing this budget was irresponsible.
“This budget, which was passed with minimal time for review, also includes pork projects for Democrat member districts. To be clear, the majority party is giving tax dollars to district projects only in Democratic districts. That is just wrong, and I was disheartened to see this practice again this year. Every Illinoisan deserves to be prioritized and protected in our budget.
“I will continue fighting for affordability, property tax relief, and a truly balanced budget for residents in the 79th District.”

My friends,
This weekend marks 32 years since I first walked into the Kankakee County Clerk’s office. Back then, we were still using a mainframe for voter registration, receipts, and even issuing dog tags. Tax extensions were calculated by hand, and we cast our ballots with punch cards. A lot has changed since then — and I’ve been grateful to grow with this office every step of the way.
Over the years, our team has celebrated new hires, marriages, and children. We’ve said heartfelt goodbyes, and we’ve prayed for peaceful rest for those we’ve lost. My coworkers have become my extended family, and I love them dearly. I’m proud that we share the same commitment to providing the very best service to every person who walks through our doors.
Together, we’ve modernized systems, strengthened transparency, and improved the services our residents rely on every day. And there is still important work ahead — work I am eager to continue.
Serving you continues to be one of the greatest honors of my life. I remain dedicated to ensuring that this office operates with professionalism, integrity, and trustworthiness. It is my solemn vow to faithfully discharge the duties of County Clerk to the very best of my ability.
I am running for reelection this year, and I humbly ask for your support. If you would be so kind, please like my page and share my posts. Even more importantly, let your friends, neighbors, and relatives know that you believe I am the most qualified candidate for County Clerk. Your voice — your conversations, your encouragement, your willingness to speak up — carries far more weight than any yard sign, billboard, or radio ad – although we’ll be doing those as well.
Thank you for your friendship, your prayers, and the trust you have placed in my hands. I remain grateful to serve a community I love, and I look forward to continuing this work together.
— Dan Hendrickson, Your Kankakee County Clerk
