"As an older student returning to school, I expected the journey to be challenging, but it has turned out to be both rewarding and encouraging. The instructors at Kankakee Community College are excellent—always ready to help, supportive, and invested in student success. The students are just as impressive: eager to learn, willing to help each other, and open to collaboration. KCC has created an environment where learning feels possible at any stage of life, and I am grateful to be a part of it." - Toni Lafi of Pembroke Township

From EMT to Leadership: Forrest’s Path Through Emergency Care
Before enrolling at Kankakee Community College, Forrest Meads was a certified nursing assistant at a nursing home in the Kankakee area.
“I saw EMTs coming in to pick up patients for dialysis,” he said.
This resonated with Forrest, who has had Type 1 diabetes for most of his life. The condition requires constant management and has long-term risks, even with careful attention.
“I thought what they were doing was important,” he said. “When I talked to them, they told me they all went to KCC to get their EMT training.”
Motivated by those conversations, Forrest enrolled at KCC and completed EMT-Basic training in 2016 before continuing into the paramedic program
