When disaster strikes, public works professionals are among the first to answer the call. They clear roads, restore critical infrastructure, support emergency operations, and help communities recover. Often, they do this while facing the same challenges at home, including damage to their property, displacement, and disrupted lives for their families.

Canada’s local infrastructure is the foundation of the federal government’s ambitious, nation-building agenda and strong, healthy communities. However, 11 percent of core public infrastructure is rated in poor or very poor condition, representing approximately $237 billion in backlog repair costs.
