Reminder from your friends at KCKFD:
No matter what your neighbor Kyle says, fireworks in Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas are not an “all summer long” activity.
Legal fireworks may be discharged from July 2 through July 4 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
Fireworks sales are permitted from June 27 through July 4 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
So if Kyle tells you, “Nah, it’s fine,” please remember that Kyle is not the Fire Marshal, and Kyle probably still thinks Roman candles are a personality trait.
Have fun, be safe, be respectful of your neighbors, and celebrate during the approved dates and times.

Swim Safe with KCKFD
Summer is here, and that means more time around pools, lakes, splash pads, and water. The Kansas City Kansas Fire Department wants everyone to enjoy the water safely.
Our Swim Safe program is a reminder that water safety starts before anyone jumps in. Watch your children closely, use proper life jackets, avoid swimming alone, and make sure everyone knows basic water safety rules.
A fun day in the water can change quickly. A few simple steps can help prevent a tragedy.
Please take a minute to watch and share this important message:

Today, we honor Deputy Theresa King and Deputy Patrick Rohrer for their sacrifice and service to our community. 💙
Eight years ago, their loss shook our community. We mourn their passing while celebrating their dedication and love for their work, families, and community. We will always remember their bravery and ultimate sacrifice.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with their families, friends, and colleagues as we continue their legacy.

New Rigs. Same Mission.
The Kansas City Kansas Fire Department is proud to invite the community to join us for a fire apparatus dedication ceremony as we officially welcome two new Spartan Pumpers into service.
These new pumpers are more than shiny red trucks. They are an investment in the safety of our residents, our firefighters, and the future of emergency response in Kansas City, Kansas.
One pumper will serve out of Rosedale and one out of Strawberry Hill, but like every KCKFD apparatus, they are ready to respond wherever they are needed across our community.
During the ceremony, attendees will be able to see the new pumpers up close, learn about their capabilities, and take part in a traditional fire service dedication honoring where we have been, where we are going, and the people we serve every day.
Apparatus Dedication Ceremony
Date: Monday, June 15, 2026
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Fire Headquarters
Come out, take a look, and help us welcome these new rigs into the KCKFD family.

Kansas City metro, we are currently under a Tornado Watch until 9 PM.
We are also in a Level 3 out of 5 severe weather risk. What does Level 3 mean? Great question. Weather people have levels now, apparently.
For the rest of us, it means strong to severe storms are possible across the metro this evening, with damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain, and yes… possibly a few NADERS.
A watch means conditions are favorable, not that a tornado is happening right now. But this is the time to pay attention. This is not the time to stand on the porch with Kyle while he says, “Nah, it’s gonna miss us.”
Kyle also thinks gas station sushi is “basically the same thing,” so we should not be taking life-safety advice from Kyle.
Please have more than one way to receive warnings, secure loose outdoor items, and know where you would go if a warning is issued.
And remember: outdoor sirens are for people outdoors. Do not rely on them as your only warning method inside your home.
Stay weather aware, Kansas City.
