Mental health took center stage at Paseo Academy this week

Thank you to Kansas City native Krizz Kaliko for spending part of his day with students and sharing honest insights about mental health, perseverance and personal growth

Through music, storytelling and lived experience, students gained practical reminders about the importance of self-care, resilience and reaching out for support when needed

We're grateful to University Health KC for helping make this opportunity possible!

As a reminder, every KCPS school offers student support resources, including access to school counselors, trauma-sensitive school clinicians and more. Visit your school's Student Support page to learn more

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, we want to congratulate the winners of our annual ¡Sí Se Puede! Art Contest!

¡Sí Se Puede! means "yes, it can be done," and each year we ask all KCPS students to submit art that represents what that phrase means to them

The judges had their work cut out for them this year—175 student from across the district submitted incredible pieces of artwork!

Winners:
• Adrian Mancia: 1st grader from Garfield Elementary
• Oliviah Becerra: 6th grader from Lincoln Middle School
• Albany Isaacs: 8th grader from Paseo Academy
• Christian Perez Vidal: 11th grader from Central High School

Congratulations to these students, and thank you to all who sent in their submissions!

This month has been a wonderful opportunity for students, staff, and the community to reflect on the Hispanic contributions, cultures, and traditions that shape us all

Let us continue to celebrate all year long as we give a final "Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!" ❤️

The future workforce taking a firsthand look at the possibilities ahead

Students from Kansas City Virtual Academy got an up-close look at Kansas City's Improve I-70 construction site, where they learned directly from industry professionals about the work that goes into building roads designed to last for decades

They also explored the wide range of careers that make major infrastructure projects possible, from the skilled trades to engineering, project management and beyond

Whether students ultimately pursue careers in the trades or choose a different path, it's important they have opportunities to see what's possible

We're grateful to the KCVA staff and industry partners who helped make this experience happen!

The journey comes full circle for some of our graduates!

At tonight’s On the Road Board Meeting, we were proud to recognize Priana Donley, a Paseo Academy Class of 2005 graduate and the KCPS Alumni Spotlight honoree

Today, Ms. Donley serves as a Teach to Lead educator at Paseo Academy, supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and helping ensure they have every opportunity to succeed

Beyond the classroom, she is also the owner of WillieBea’s Catering, a successful local soul-food catering business

Her story is a powerful example of what it means to invest in the community that helped shape you

We were also honored to welcome KCPS Lead Interpreter Neil Hatton, who served as Ms. Donley’s interpreter during her time as a KCPS student

Congratulations, Priana, and thank you for continuing to make a difference for KCPS students and our community!
