Bethel Neighborhood Center We are a nonprofit started in 1911. Our mission is to offer hope to all to achieve self-sufficiency. We run after school and summer programs for grades 1-12.

Bethel Neighborhood Center (BNC) has been serving people of all ages -- from infants to senior adults in the Kansas City, Kansas community for 112 years, since 1911. It has a history of serving newly immigrated or migrated people groups to the Kansas City community who consist primarily of economically challenged and underserved families and individuals. We serve the community through meals, food pantry, health, educational, sewing training, and recreational programs to promote physical and social wellness. Since early 1920s, BNC has been recognized as a United Way agency. Since 1971, BNC has been recognized as a nutrition site by Area Agency on Aging of Wyandotte County. In 2020, we served more than 23,000 individuals, and in 2021, more 13,000 through our food pantry. Homework help, social skills, conflict resolution, community service, and college readiness are some of the things we do with our children and youth.

BREAKING🚨 A Missouri town is in REVOLT after its marshal handed ICE a high school senior — so now they’ve CANCELED their partnership with ICE and SUSPENDED their own marshal.

Rodrigo Gonzalez Carbajal, 19, was driving home from soccer practice, just five miles over the speed limit and almost home, when his town marshal pulled him over.

The marshal arrested him and immediately handed him over to ICE, who locked him up.

Rodrigo has a work permit and a Social Security card. His lawyer says he has never missed an immigration hearing.

But his town was NOT going to let this happen quietly.

Hundreds packed a town council meeting demanding answers. Rodrigo’s classmates and soccer teammates showed up. More than 200 people demanded an investigation.

“I voted for Trump,” one man told the council. “I don’t support what happened here. It’s not right.”

Then came the stunning decision.

The town council voted UNANIMOUSLY to cancel its ICE enforcement agreement and suspend the very marshal who pulled Rodrigo over.

But Rodrigo is STILL locked up in ICE detention.

It was such a joy to have our friends from FBC Council Grove and FBC McClouth, Kansas visit us today — their hearts were filled with love and their arms filled with gifts of all kinds.

They decided to adopt 8 families for the Bethel Christmas Shop in December in addition to bringing sewing machines, fabric, Bingo prizes, and much more! Thank you for your visit and making Christmas brighter and for supporting our families in such a meaningful way.
