Faxon Elementary Faxon Elementary is a neighborhood school in the Kansas City Public Schools. No two paths to a good education are exactly the same.
(1)

Each child has a different way of learning; students need instruction tailored to fit their individual needs. Faxon is a Literacy Focus school. Each month students focus on different literacy elements, such as: author's purpose, making inferences, sequencing, main idea, details, and drawing conclusions. Until 2009 school year, Faxon was a Montessori school. When Franklin Elementary closed, students came to Faxon Elementary. The original Faxon school, built in 1911, was named for Frank A. Faxon, head of one of the largest drug firms in the western United States. He also was a city councilman and a member of the school board from 1894 to 1912.

Dear KCPS families and community,

The U.S. Department of Education has announced an unprecedented decision to withhold nearly $7 billion in congressionally approved education funding for the current fiscal year.

For Kansas City Public Schools, more than $4.1 million in critical federal funding is now frozen. These funds were already allocated to support essential programs and services that directly impact our students, families, and educators.

These are not just numbers on a page. These funds support adult learners pursuing new opportunities, educators committed to professional growth, and students working to overcome barriers and thrive in school.

We are actively exploring every possible option to protect the programs our families rely on, and we invite our community to stand with us in unity, advocacy and unwavering resolve. Our students deserve nothing less.

We will keep our families informed and engaged every step of the way. Thank you for standing with us and Kansas City’s children during this time.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jennifer Collier
Superintendent, Kansas City Public Schools

NOTICE: Input needed on Missouri's new School Cell Phone Law

Dear KCPS Families,

A new Missouri law (Senate Bill 68) requires all public schools to establish policies that limit student use of personal electronic devices, such as cell phones, during the entire school day—including lunch and breaks.

KCPS is committed to developing this policy with input from our families to ensure it reflects our shared values of safety, focus, and equity. We would greatly appreciate your feedback on potential storage methods for student devices and appropriate consequences for policy violations.

Please take a few moments to complete this survey: https://my.thoughtexchange.com/scroll/153135750/welcome

To further inform our community, KCPS will host a webinar on Thursday, June 12 at 5 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. This session will provide detailed information about the new state mandate and discuss potential policy measures. We encourage all parents and guardians to attend and share their perspectives.
