FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lakes Regional to Assume Kaufman County Mental Health Authority Duties (Date TBD)

Kaufman County, Texas — Lakes Regional Community Center (Lakes Regional) will become Kaufman County's Local Mental Health Authority (LMHA), assuming the role from the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA). A transition date has not yet been established.

Residents should not experience any interruption in services as a result of this change. Until the transition is finalized, NTBHA will continue serving as Kaufman County’s LMHA, and will maintain responsibility for existing provider contracts and mental health authority functions. Stakeholders will be notified by Lakes Regional once a date has been mutually established by Lakes Regional, NTBHA, and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Upon completion of the transition, Lakes Regional will assume all duties of the mental health authority and ensure the provision of a full range of mental health and crisis response services. Lakes Regional will become Kaufman County's point of contact for mental health matters. While some services and programs NTBHA has brought to the county may no longer be available, Lakes Regional is committed to working collaboratively with community stakeholders to identify needs and provide high quality mental health services.

This transition does not affect substance use disorder services. NTBHA will continue to serve as the designated Local Behavioral Health Authority responsible for these services.
