Board & Bean - Progress Report #3 🎲☕
We visited Board & Bean for another progress check-in, and this one feels noticeably different from the last.
Some original wood floors are being restored, the restroom area now has walls, the mezzanine has a plan, and they’re getting closer to the point where tables and other setup can start moving in.
The board game side of Board & Bean is also becoming part of the building itself, not just hundreds of games waiting on the shelves.
🛠️ What’s Taking Shape 🛠️
• The service counter is much further along, and the walls behind it have been painted
• The new restroom now has walls up and is being finished out, with fixtures still to come
• More walls throughout the space have been painted
• Once the remaining floor work and protective coating are finished, tables can be organized and other setup can begin
🎲 Board Game Installs 🎲
One of the biggest additions is directly above you when you walk in… A ceiling display made from board game boards.
They’ve also been making framed art with game pieces, adding wooden dice that will eventually light up, and working on more displays using board games & pieces throughout the space.
The game collection itself has slightly grown as well. Stephanie estimates they’re now somewhere around 660 games, up a little from our last check-in. One of their recent find includes a game with several expansion packs.
🪵 The Original Floors 🪵
The original plan was to leave some of the existing carpet and use waterproof flooring in other areas. Instead, more of the carpet was removed, and the original wood underneath is being restored.
Parts of the stairs and mezzanine had bright pink carpet over older orange carpet, and in some areas walls had even been built on top of the carpet.
Those wood flooring sections are now being cleaned up, filled, sanded, and sealed with a protective coating. It added more work to the buildout, but also brought back flooring that had been covered for decades.
🪜 The Mezzanine 🪜
Another change from the original plans is that Board & Bean will use the upper mezzanine.
The current idea is for it to be a lounge area with comfortable seating, while still keeping a table available for longer board games, D&D sessions, or groups wanting a little separation from the main floor.
It gives them more usable space, but also means more flooring, more painting, and more space to prepare.
📍 Where It Stands 📍
• There is still plenty left to finish, but this is probably the most visible jump forward since our first check-in.
• Board & Bean is currently targeting an opening in late-2026/early-2027.
• Still a work in progress, but it’s starting to look a lot more like Board & Bean.
