A resident shared this video with me along with a nice note of Officer Abbott joining a lady for the Chicken Dance at Oktoberfest, and I couldn’t help but smile.

I’m proud of the outstanding police work our officers do every day, but I’m just as proud of the connections they make with our community. When residents and visitors know you by name, that says a lot about how you treat people.

Moments like this show the human side of the job. Sharing a laugh, joining a dance, and making someone’s day… our officers do an amazing job serving Kearney in so many ways.

Officer Abbott, once again, you make us proud. We’re thankful you’re part of our Kearney family!

It was both an honor and a deeply personal privilege to issue a proclamation recognizing Captain Ron McEntire for 30 years of dedicated service to the Kearney Police Department.

Throughout his distinguished career, Ron has risen through the ranks and earned the trust and respect of his fellow officers, city leadership, and the community he has served so faithfully. His commitment, sacrifice, sound judgment, and steadfast leadership have strengthened our Police Department and helped make Kearney a safer place to live, work, and raise a family.

This recognition is especially meaningful to me. Beyond his service to our city, Ron is a deeply valued member of our family and someone I have long respected as a role model and mentor.

Captain McEntire, thank you for three remarkable decades of service to the City of Kearney. Our community and our family are incredibly proud of you. Congratulations on 30 years!

It was my honor today to present a proclamation recognizing September 13–19, 2026, as Assisted Living Week in the City of Kearney.

This year’s theme, “Shining Through the Years,” celebrates assisted living residents, their families and the dedicated caregivers who serve them each day.

A special congratulations to Tara and everyone at Oak Pointe of Kearney as it celebrates 11 years of service to our community. Thank you for providing a safe, welcoming and loving home for so many of our senior citizens.

I encourage everyone to take time this week to visit, call or send a kind word to a loved one, friend or neighbor living in one of our senior care communities.
