Jefferson County Sheriff's Office - WV

10/21/2026

🚌 It’s National School Bus Safety Week, October 19–23! The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is joining with Jefferson County Schools, WV and other area law enforcement agencies to spread bus safety awareness.

Every school day, JCS bus drivers safely transport thousands of students to school and back home. It takes all of us to keep our students safe while riding buses, getting on and off, and waiting at the bus stop.

Check out these reminders for students, motorists, and families, and take a moment to review the Danger Zone around the bus with your student. It makes a real difference.

Flashing red lights and an extended stop arm mean STOP. It’s the law, and it protects our kids.

💛 Want to be part of the team that gets our students to school every day? JCS is hiring bus drivers, and training is provided. Apply at jcswv.org/jobs.

Together, we can make every ride a safe ride.

📦 Just moved? Welcome to West Virginia!

⚖ Did you know that by West Virginia State Code you have 30 days to register your vehicle and obtain your West Virginia driver's license?

🚔 As we patrol our communities, members of law enforcement agencies in the County have noticed a high number of Out of State tags. Therefore, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has started a new program to educate residents of this law to help ensure you are not in violation.

🚪Door hangers will be placed at homes that have vehicles with out of state tags. We understand that there are commuters who have company vehicles as well as individuals currently driving a rental car, if you believe you have wrongly received a hanger, simply give us a call as directed. We will verify and notate the information on our follow up list.

💵 Paying your County Personal Property Tax is the only way to receive the Personal Property Tax Credit when submitting your West Virginia Tax Return, but failing to change your registration and driver's license can result in costing you money in fines.
