🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK — SAFETY TIP OF THE DAY 🔥

⚡ CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY! 🔋

Phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, toys, e-bikes and many other items in our homes use lithium-ion batteries. These batteries pack a lot of energy into a small space — and when damaged or charged improperly, they can become a serious fire hazard.

A few simple habits can help keep your family and home safe:

🔌 Use the charger and cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

🛏️ Never charge phones, tablets or laptops on a bed, couch, pillow or other soft surface. Charge them on a hard, flat surface where heat can escape.

🔥 Stop using a battery immediately if you notice swelling, excessive heat, leaking, an unusual odor or a change in shape or color.

🚪 Keep larger battery-powered devices such as e-bikes and scooters away from exits and escape routes while charging.

⚠️ And remember — never throw lithium-ion batteries in the regular trash. Dispose of them at an appropriate battery recycling or hazardous-waste location.

Small changes in how we charge our everyday devices can prevent fires.

Charge smart. Charge safe. Protect your home.

🔥🚒 IT’S FIRE PREVENTION WEEK! 🚒🔥

Silver Valley Fire Rescue is kicking off Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10!

This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower™.” 🔋⚡

Rechargeable devices are everywhere in our homes—from phones and tablets to power tools, e-bikes, toys, and more. This week, we’ll be sharing simple ways you and your family can help prevent fires and stay safe.

🔥 A few ways to start Fire Prevention Week:

• Test every smoke alarm in your home.
• Make sure your family has a home escape plan—and practice it!
• Keep exits, hallways, and bedroom doors clear.
• Use the correct charger for rechargeable devices.
• Never charge devices under pillows, blankets, or other materials that can trap heat.
• Teach your kids what to do when they hear a smoke alarm.

👨‍🚒 Fire prevention starts long before the fire department is called.

Take a few minutes this week to look around your home, talk with your kids, test those smoke alarms, and make sure everyone knows two ways out.

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, Silver Valley Fire Rescue will be at multiple schools, libraries, and more!

Stay safe, Silver Valley! ❤️🚒

❤️ COMMUNITY SHOUT-OUT — BEAUTY FOR ASHES! ❤️

Silver Valley Fire Rescue would like to give a big THANK YOU to Beauty for Ashes, a small organization making a meaningful difference in our community.

Beauty for Ashes supports Fire, EMS, and Law Enforcement agencies by providing new blankets that first responders can give to people during emergencies.

🚒🚑🚓 YOU CAN HELP!

Donation boxes are located in the front lobbies of the Silver Valley Fire Rescue stations in Kellogg and Osburn. We are accepting donations of new blankets to help Beauty for Ashes continue this program. Monetary donations are also accepted directly by the organization.

A simple blanket can make a bigger difference than you might think. For example, during a vehicle crash in cold weather, someone may not be able to get back into their vehicle to retrieve a coat or other belongings. While they wait outside for family, a tow truck, or transportation, one of these blankets can provide much-needed warmth and comfort during a difficult moment.

It’s a simple gesture, but sometimes the little things make a big difference.

❤️ Want to help? Donate a new blanket!
